Remove complete airbox and valve cover shield, for passenger side. Unmount and move coolant tank away from work area of driver side. No need to drain coolant. Unscrew pre-turbo boost pipes, with single 10mm bolt located on lower cylinder bank of each side, to unbolt cylinder #1 and #4 coilpacks. Install is reverse of removal. Make sure both boost pipes are back on correctly - otherwise, a no-start condition will occur.
you need to use vw/audi coolant. Go to either a Volkswagen or Audi dealership. IT's not cheap and comes as a concentrate (dilute 50/50), but you run the risk of growing cottage-cheese-like clumps in your cooling system if you mix a different type of coolant.
Usually, you have a code in your owners manual which is a series of buttons you push to unlock it (it is an anti-theft protection). If you can't find it, a dealership probably won't charge you to reset it...then again, I am in Europe and things are a little different over here :). Cheers!
i just solved this on my A6 quattro check the level in your expansion tank (left side of engine bay) if level is low then top up with long life dual anti-freeze/coolant,saves any probs if we have a harsh winter, if full pump on the radiator feed to help relieve poss blockages and make sure water is flowing through the system
you will need to pull the radio out and get the serial number off the back of the radio unit. then call up your local VW/AUDI repair shop or dealer and ask them to look up the code for you. i had to do this last week with my VW jetta.
