I have only one remote that works.
Second one, and two from e-bay do not.
Dealer tried to re-program the other three, but now says the remote cannot be re-programmed once used on a different car.
Anyone know how to re-set the remote so it is not linked to a car, and can then be programmed to my car by the dealer?
GM dealer, not very expert on SAABs.
Car is a 2003 9-3 Linear SAAB with the key inserted into the remote.
Have been assured the remotes can be re-programmed, but how?.
Try and find a saab authorized dealership, not a gm'er who may or may not know. If you have a remote, then they should be able to 'reprogram' ALL keysets at one time to the same signature/frequency that your car is set to.
Like a lot of SAAB components, the manufacturer has tried to make them as least attractive and susceptible to theft as possible - try fitting a stereo from one SAAB to an identical model - it won't work. It is a question of divorce and marriage.
The components (electronic ones) are married to the individual car. Your remote from another car would need to be de-prgrammed by a dealer with full SAAB diagnostic equipment (if it is possible to de-program the remote), before being married to your car. A 9-3 can have up to 3 or 4 keys (mine has two - there were three but it's a long story!) with different levels of access for the car. Without the donor car available to electronically divorce the donated remote I am not sure that they will work.
Also bear in mind that different overseas markets use different UHF frequencies for remotes for car locking systems and unless the remotes are a perfect match for your car they may never work.
Slide out the metal key insert from the remote and check the engraved code on the inside curve of your remote to see if the part number matches or comes close to the one from your original key.
The Keys need to be programmed to match the immobilizer.

The remotes must therefore be storing car information somehow. Am wondering if removing the battery for awhile will cause them to erase/re-set? Have heard if the remote battery dies, the key needs to be re-programmed.There can only be an RF connection, so a specific frequency re-set would seem logical.. That they are updated with a code from the car surprises me. Car therefore would need a transceiver rather than just a receiver . Am going to get a new second key in the meantime, but this is a puzzlement...
