1997 JaguarXK8 how to remove drivers inner door panel & change door handle

Possibly the linkage has slipped off of the handle assembly, gain access to examine it by removing the inner door panel. Or handle assembly tab has broken off.

i believe after you remove the door panel you can access the inner door handle and remove it from the door shell

Go to ebay I bought two new outer handles and two inners for my '97 accent. They are five bucks a piece you can't beat it and free shipping. Take the inner panel apart if you're going to change them yourself. You have the mirror guard that pops right off with a flathead screwdriver, then unscrew every philips-head bolt on the panel there should be roughly four screws. Then once you remove the panel, two 10 mm bolts for the handle which are inside the door are what hold the handle on. Gently don't force anything. 1st check for any visible screws on door trim & undo. remove window winder if not power window you can buy a tool for this. carfully pull the trim out from the bottom of the door & work up. You will probably find it stops near the door handle. There is probably hidden screws behind the inner door handle trim & don't forget arm rests. just be gentle & yu should work it out & not brake anything

you need to remove the inner door panel.you will have to look for the screws holding the panel on at the arm rest area and behind the door handle.were the door lock lever is you will have to remove the plastic cover.then if you have power windows its easier as you don`t have to remove window handle,if its manual windows then there is a clip that must be removed to remove the handle,its located between the handle and the door panel and usually faces the handle knob,push the clip off of the handle.then you will have to go around the edge of the panel along the side and bottom and pull outward to disconnect the push in clips from the door.then move the panel to remove it from the door(may have to disconnect wire connectors).then in the upper right area of the inner door panel the bolts will be visible,make sure window is up.remove bolts and electrical wires if power mirrors and remove the mirror.install in reverse order.

inside the handle there is ONE screw covered by a piece of plastic. remove the plastic and then remove the screw. pull handle out and disconnect it from the door latch bar. replace in reverse

remove inner door panel & check linkage to lower latch. if connected then watch linkage while moving handle, if linkage seems to bow or bend then lower lacth is frozen & needs to be replaced.

If it's the outer panel the door handle is held on with a small push pin.You remove the inner portion & then remove the outer part.Then lift door handle up & slide forward.It shoukld come off.1996-1999 Sedan the regulator can be removed with just the inner door trim removed.hope this helps

There are 2 metal rods that hook into the handle. They are retained by a plastic clip that is prone to wear out. You must remove the inner door panel and replace these clips reataching the rods. Parts available through Toyota.

On the inside trim, you can remove screws that are by the door handle, arm rest, under door and side of door and then gently pull back on the panel as there will also be retaining clips attached and you don't want to break them. You'll need to lift the door panel upwards in order to get it off the window ledge. Then you'll need to manipulate the panel and disconnect the door handle linkage from the door handle and disconnect the wiring for your controls
