Have a 2004 PT Cruiser (turbo) that is running hot. The overflow bottle seems to be empty all the time but I don't see anything on the ground. Replaced the thermostat, still running hot. Gurgul

Thermostat replaced, overflow bottle always empty, car continues to run hot, oil light comes on in stop and go traffic, car has recently shut off when too hot.

Check your oil dipstick for coolant, or a mucky substance. Your symptoms sound like a blown head gasket.

SOURCE: 2001 pt cruiser running hot after changing

I have a 2001 PT and it overheats the rad fan will not turn on. I took it to auto zone to hook it up to the code reader and it said that BBECM has detected an open or shorted condition in the radiator fan relay circuit Probable cause open or shorted high speed radiator fan relay.
What dose this mean is it a relay or the computer. I have read alot about the pcm needing re-programed is this something the Chrysler deal should take care of it seem to be happening to alot of people.

SOURCE: I HAVE A 2003 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER. RUNS HOT !

A lot of people overlook the simple overflow tank cap. If this cap loses the psi pressure it requires to hold then it can make the engine run hot because it's losing pressure. Think about it like this, if you have ever had a radiator to leak, the water level could be good, but the temp gauge shows it overheats. This is because the system isn't holding the pressure. The cap cost about $7. I'm not saying this will fix the problem but it is overlooked and fixes the problem on a lot of over heating cars.

2006 PT Cruiser turbo backfiring etc

Hello. It seems your PT Cruiser might have low fuel pump pressure. This will cause a backfire/misfire condition upon 'mild' acceleration. 'Gentle' acceleration, your car will run 'decent'. Good luck and keep me informed; if you want to.

Timinig mark for 2003 pt cruiser non turbo 2.4

Hi, if it's ignition timing your looking at, it'not adjustable, it's controlled by the ECU, If however it's the cam belt timing, there is a crnk timing mark on the bottom pulley and the cam shafts have markings on theouter rim of the pulleys, these have to line up facing each other in a straight line using the centre bolts as a datum, all 3 marks should be aligned to be correct

My 2004 PT Cruiser overheats whenever I idle for too long and when my air conditioning is running and the car isn't above 2000 rpms I don't know what the problem is?

Hi Laura. It would seem that the electric cooling fan is not cutting in when it is meant to. Check the cooling fan fuses first, (there should be two, one for the engine and another for the AC) Take the vehicle for an inspection and a scan, asking the mechanic to take special note of the fans and sender units which control the operation. Regards John

I bought a used PT Cruiser 3 weeks ago and it has been in the shop since then. It sputters very bad when it is on idle. They have changed the spark plugs and wire, o2 sensor, cam shaft sensor, fixed the...

if the timing belt has slipped it would make it misfire, however it seems to me that they were just playing hit and miss on your dime. Take it to a reliable shop, one that will test it with the OBD code reader, when you get those codes that will narrow it down to just a few items, you can even post the codes here for help. You don't include which motor you have , it would be something as simple as a distributor cap and rotor if the motor you have , has one. I believe that year came with the 2.4 motor with a couple of variations, and also in a diesel, to assist you with your problem we would need to know which motor you have to narrow down the possibilities your experiencing. depending on if you have a Turbo model or not,, The platinum plugs are not for the turbo models, although some owners are using them. Supposedly the turbo runs too hot and can burn up the thin electrode of the plug. Some of the members that are running quite a bit of performance mods on the turbos are very happy with the standard copper plug that was intended for the turbo. ..... I don't know what he put in your vehicle, but they must be gaped correctly or your car will miss also. Ok, I just got some feed back from my Chrysler friend, who happens to also be a mechanic, I relayed what your problem was , he told me I was correct , change the cap and rotor in your vehicle before going onto the more expensive repair of a timing chain, if you take the car to a mechanic that knows what hes doing, a simple check of the timing will indicate solutions to your problem as well as a OBD code check.
