Heater core gone out in 98 ford expedition-need help replacing

heater hoses clogged up, check where heater hoses connect to engine for clogs. Rust and corrosion love to build up in these locations.

Is the correct type of heater core that use for rear heater?Check fan fix its correct side,or wiring change or return water line is blocked.

If you smell antifreeze it may be 3 possibilities: 1. you may have a leaking hose/hose connector , or water pump. 2. your heater core is bad and needs replaced. Unless you know what you are doing I would highly suggest taking to dealer for heater core replacement. The dash and steering colum has to be removed to get to the heater core. This is not an easy job believe me (about-900-1200 job). If you have your heater core replaced then also replace the climate control door. This is good preventative maintenance and also a a dollar saver. I would have a pressure check run on your radiator as a first thought. All you may have is a bad hose and that can easily be replaced.

There may be a corrosive in the system. Flushing the system should be done at least every 2 years. Your vehicle is now 12 years old, but I have not seen a heater core go bad in 10 months, it may have been defective, and should have some type of warranty.

Heater core is a lot of work, but not extremely technical. You do have to remove the console, if applicable, and most of the passenger side dash materials, until you can get to all the small bolts on the bottom of the black blower unit. Beware of all the blend doors, they have to go back in the right places!. Then, to get the old core out, you may want to cut the metal tubes of the heater core, so you can work loose the hose connections to fit the new one. Strongly recommend Ford OEM replacement core, about $110, for fit. Also check closely the bottom of the blend door axle for cracks, you may want to replace it (about $35) while you are there. Local A/C shop with good reputation quotes $350 labor for this job. Good luck!

I ASSUME THIS IS A 98, THIS PROBLEM IS CAUSED BY A PART CALLED AN "AIR TEMPERATURE CONTROL BLEND DOOR ACTUATOR MOTOR" THIS MOVES A DOOR BETWEEN THE COLD AIR FROM THE AC AND THE HOT AIR FROM THE HEATER CORE, YOU WILL NEED TO REPLACE THAT ACTUATOR. .

Call around, different garages have different labor rates.It's the job of putting these things in that cost so much. You might find one cheaper, and you may not.
