2004 gmc sonoma why does it take 2-3 times cranking before it starts and only does it sometimes?

Truck will not start on the first try you have to crank 2-3 times before it turns over, we have changed fuel regulator, fuel pump, ignition module, coil pack, truck runs great once started never dies, sometimes it can sit for 5 minutes and have trouble starting or times it just starts right up and sometimes it can sit all night and still start right up. it has trouble starting cold or hot it don't matter

Install pressure gauge and watch when key is turned off to see if pressure drops to zero if so bad drain back valve in fuel pump replace it or deal with it or could be cheap aftermarket pump and has hard time building unnecessary pressure to open poppet valves between before fuel injectors

The oil presure switch does have some bearing on the problem but my suggestion is to change the coil. I had a the same problem with an astro van. I changed everything that you have described and it fixed the problem just for a little while and then all of a sudden did it again. I changed the coild and the cold start swithch and never had the problem again.

Transmission range switch could be the problem . Try placing gear selector into neutral when your having starting problem's. Some people call it a PNP switch - park neutral safety switch .

What should I try replacing next?

turn on key and pump gas 2 times then press gas pedal to floor and try to start. If it pops or backfires then it is timing chain

Truck won't start

Sounds like you have several problems.
If the engine will not crank, do you have power on the purple wire on the small starter terminal when the key switch is in the start position ?

My 1999 GMC Sonoma will not start or even crank for that matter.Scan tool has a code 1632 for theft deterant enabled. How do you reset?

This is not a reset problem but rather a bad key or sensor, try a spare key and see if the truck will start, most times it is due to a bad chip in the key or the key reader is bad, so try another key first.

The truck will start fine when cold, but sometimes when it warms up it will crank and crank before it starts up.. 1998 GMC Sonoma 2.2L automatic

It probably is a fuel pressure regulator. I don't have my books home for this vehicle so I am unsure as to where it is located on your vehicle but you might go to the parts store and ask them if they have one for your pickup and if they could show you where it is at. Most the parts stores will help you out. If not go to one that will. They are all pretty good about helping out.

99 gmc sonoma starts sometimes and sometimes it doesn't

Check and clean your battery cables. Then, trace the wires from your battery to your starter. Make sure they are clean and secure. I believe this will fix your problem. If not, you may have a starter solenoid starting to fail.

Hope this helps and good luck!
