SOURCE: hub making grinding noise

Hub grinding noise sounds like bad wheel bearing or sticking brake caliper. A bad wheel bearing will be felt through the steering wheel and the brake pedal. a sticking caliper won't vibrate, but generate heat.
But tie rod ends get loose and cause vibration through the steering wheel on bumps, but not through brake pedal.

SOURCE: repair steering linkage

You'll have to rent or borrow a pickle fork and a pitman arm puller. There is more than one size of pickle fork so specify for tie rod ends. You can buy them too, about $100 for the pair and they are not vehicle specific.
Jack and block up your front end so the wheels are clear. Take the nut off the tie rod end and wedge the pickle fork between the tie rod and the drag link, rap with a hammer until it separates. Loosen the bolt on the collar and unscrew the tie rod end. Count the turns when you remove it and screw the new one in the same number of turns.Fit it into the drag link and tighten the collar and the new nut.
Take the nut off the idler arm and use the pickle fork to separate it from the drag link. Unbolt the idler arm from the frame. The new one goes on in the reverse.
You'll probably need an adjustable wrench to remove the nut from the pitman arm,it's bigger than most wrench sets. Separate it from the drag link first. Slide the puller on and tighten it up. Once it starts to turn hard, give the bolt on the puller a rap with the hammer and tighten some more. Repeat until the arm comes off. Slip the new one on and tighten.
Don't be shy when you tighten these parts because if there is play, the holes in the drag link will oval out and you will have to replace it too. Don,t use a pickle fork on the pitman arm or you will have to replace the seal in the bottom of the steering box. Hope this helps.

ES Lancer - vibration, dull grinding noise when turning right, even at low speeds. Intensifies as I approach 30+mph. Replaced CV Axle, Tie Rod End, Bearing, and Hub. No dice.

Turning right and having a loader noise, means the left/drivers side is bad. Turn right, more pressure on the left side. and vice versa.

I have a 99 Dodge ram 1500 5.2L stick shift and the front end is making a pulsing grinding noise at 15-30 mph, it stops as soon as I apply the brakes or turn.

1) Could be a stone or something similar between the pads and disks on your front brakes. Wheel off check the disks are they pitted, rusted or scored. Look for stones or grit between pad and disk.

2) Could be a wheel bearing, jack up the car (Securely) see if there's any play in the wheels. Try to rock them side to side and top to bottom. If there's play (movement/judder) from the hub, your bearing needs replacing.

Front end shimmy @ 65-70 mph

I would look at replacing your ball joints and/or tie rod ends, either can cause those symptoms. The balls joints should be check by a professional.

To check your tie rods jack one front side of your car check it, then do the other;

Move the front wheels. Placing your hands on the tire at the 9 and 3 o'clock positions, move the tire back and forth rapidly. A properly tightened front end will give no signs of excess movement and should give you the feeling of the entire wheel moving back and forth tight to the hub. If there is a movement, ask a friend or partner to ascertain where the movement is coming from. There could be many places that excess movement in a front end could be coming from. The tie rod ends are the easiest to check. Generally, if there is movement in the outer tie rod end, you will see it moving near the ball area where is sits down into the knuckle of the control arm. Excess movement there will require replacement of the outer tie rod. As far as movement on the inner tie rod, place your hand on that while your helper is moving the tire in the same motion described above. Determine how excessive the movement is, if any, for an inner tie rod. Some vehicles will give off a little movement in the rack and pinion. Some vehicles will have what feels like excess movement, but have pitman arms and idler arms that will also need to be checked. Those components should only be allowing side-to-side movement.
Take some time and make sure the lower ball joint is not moving. Place your hands on the tire at 12 and 6 o'clock and try to move it up and down. Many vehicles nowadays have wheel bearing hub assemblies, and there should be absolutely no free-play whatsoever. If there is and the lower ball joint is not moving in the knuckle, chances are there's movement in the bearing. Some rear-wheel-drive vehicles have a bearing seated rotor and this can be adjusted to tighten the looseness in a bearing; however, a little movement in that type of application is generally OK.
