After going out and trying my spare key the ignition turned, I appreciate your answering my question. If the problem returns i will consider changing out the cylinder. Thank you.

I jyst today, 8-19-20, experienced an ignition issue. From what I've read & lots of experience with cars & mechanics over my years...ive learned, it seems there's probably a couple things going wrong at once, i.e. cylinder, ignition yada yada, I'd rather fix the WHOLE KIT-N-KABOODLE. like i did when my rear light indicators came on & bought the bulbs bc it came w/2, ya know darn well the other bulb will burn out too..so i replaced both at the same time. As far as my new issue w/my ignition not turning all the way to start, it may just be the cylinder but here i go again, i know the other part(s) of ignition will "wear out" so just gonna get the whole thing replaced. Hopefully that made any bit of sense to anyone bc it came out sincerely of a bipolar mind

Replace with a new ignition cylinder. The tumblers inside your old one has been bent out of shape from age causing this problem. I am a certified locksmith knowing this is a common problem

Thank you, I tried my spare key and it worked, could it just be that my key was worn?

Try to wiggle the key up and down while trying to turn it.If it still will not turn then you will need to replace the ignition switch.

SOURCE: Key won't turn in ignition, 2001 Toyota 4Runner

I have the same problem. I put some graphite down the key hole and pushed it around in there and it loosened it up a bit to the point I could turn the ignition. If you have a replacement key, start using that. It should help as well.Teeth on old key may be wearing down. Lastly, I keep a screwdriver in the car to whack against key when it's in the ignition if it's stuck. A few taps on the key will always unlock the ignition.

Or, go but a new ignition and key set....

SOURCE: Key wont move ignition switch

The actual ignition switch, the electrical switch which the key cylinder turns, is probably bad. It is made of plastic and does eventually wear out. Have that part checked out.

SOURCE: key will not turn past

Depending on the model car it sounds like the cylinder lock is bad, something broke apart inside the lock but i have seen the ignition switch also break apart, you will need to remove the cylinder and see if its the cylinder or the switch itself, good day.

Place key in ign. And turns with no clicks btw off acc and start. When you turn off, goes past off to acc no clicks

Hello Ron, If your car does not crank when you turn the key, it sounds as if you have problems with the ignition switch . Or the actuating rod is disconnected.

When you turn the key,it only goes to the Acc position

Turn the Key OVER and see if you can rotate it then.

Are your Wheels turned HARD and the Steering Wheel Locked?
Are your Wheels against a CURB and not allowing the Steering Wheel to rotate to remove the Locking Mechanism to go freely?

2000 olds 3.5 Dohc. Changed fuel filter checked fuel pressure @40 lbs resting cranking 45 lbs When i try and start it in the morning indoors won't fire crank the key to acc then on then back to acc then...

Which is the problem, no fire, or no crank. No fire means to spark to engine, but engine turns over fine. No crank means engine won't turn over when key is turned. I'm assuming engine will not turn over. Three most common problems. 1. Weak battery (get tested at auto parts store). Will hold charge for short time once started, but loses it when sits overnight. 2. Bad starter. Possible but not likely, still not out of the question. 3. Bad battery cables. This is an easy test. Take a pair of jumper cables and bypass the battery cables by connecting black side of jumper cable to "-" of battery and block of engine, and red of jumper cables to "+" of battery and (tap) Battery terminal post on starter...engine should turn over. Ensure you take all safety precautions to prevent car from moving during this procedure. Best of luck resolving this problem.

1991 Lexus LS 400 ignition locked doesn't turn past ACC

First things first, if you can not turn the key lock past ACC you are not doing anything with the starter. The problem with the lock must be in the lock or the linkage connected to it.
The price for the starter may be fair depending on where it is coming from.
You have to be able to turn the key to the start position before anything happens with the starter.

My 01 chevy malibu theft deterrent light is on and my car wont start or let me get my key out of the ignition what can i do?

turn the key to the "acc" position. you will notice the theft light flashing. leave the key in this position for exactly 10 minutes. the light should stop flashing. turn the key back to the off position and then start the car as you normally would. Works every time!

Can't remove ignition key. I can start it, drive it, park it (and make sure the shift lever is in park), turn the car off, but the Key will not go past the ACC position when I turn it counter clockwise.

either you have a problem with the cable that connects the gear lever to the ignition or the steering lock has broke inside. But i seem to think that its more likely to be the cable
