How do i fix the torque converter toyota corolla S 2006

Revs High; sometimes when putting into reverse handle gets stuck and takes several tries to get it into reverse (doesn't happen often); sometimes when it's in reverse, car goes nowhere (like it's in neutral); P0741 code came up; otherwise car runs fine; does it need a new transmission?

Change the solinoid the code is calling up. The converter is fine if it wasn't it would screw up in all gears. I believe its the reverse solinoid control. Just replace that. They do go haywire from time to time. Also check the electrical connection plug first, oil aand contamination can cause the same problem. Cleat both ends of the electrical plugs first then go from there. My bet " dirty or contaminated harness plugs".

Yes it does. ANy partial repairs you try (valve body, solenoids, or whatever others will whif at) will likely be temporary at best. VERY FEW transmission problems aside from circuit codes make sense repairing single components.

Sounds like a problem with the cable or shifter. look at the front of the transmission where the cable conects. Have someone move the shifter through its positions and see that the cable is moving the transmission lever properly.

SOURCE: p0741 Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Preformance or Stuck Off

Toyota is aware of this situation. Production changes have ocurred to correct this condition.

Here is what you do: Take your vehicle to your Toyota dealer. Tell them that you have a P-0741 code, and you want them to apply "Toyota Technical Service bulletin TC008-04" to your vehicle. They will perform several tests, and if you vehicle is lower than 5 years old, and less than 60, 000 miles, they will fix it for free. This TSB is covered by the Powertrain Warranty. Additionally, Thay may replace the ECU with an updated unit, and that particular warranty is in effect for 96 months or 80,000 miles.

This will definatly cure your issue.

SOURCE: P0741 torque converter stuck off code - 2004 Toyota corolla

P0741 deals with internal transmission torque converter slip. A proper scan tool that is capable of reading the sensor's data inside the transmission would show the slipping torque converter and the fluid temperature.
It is critical to know exactly what conditions are present when the code stores. If the codes were not erased, they could be old codes in it's history.

Go back to the transmission shop or where you had the work done on replacing the TCC solenoid and have them read and clear the codes history. As mentioned, they could be old codes that is being read prior to your repairs.
Thank you for using Fixya and good luck, Have a shop verify line pressure, and provided no valves in the TCC hydraulic circuit are worn, replace the torque converter. Also, Lubegard Shudder Fix will at least fix this for awhile. Or try a transmission flush by a shop that uses BG brand products.

Testimonial: "Thank you very very much."

My 2009 toyota corolla has a code p2757. Its related to a solenoid. how do I go about solving my problem?

well my transmission officially blew up due to the torque converter. I suggest dropping the transmission pan then taking the solenoids out and cleaning the hell out of them, drain as much trans fluid as possible and replace the gasket and filter. Replace the trans pan after putting all the solenoids back into place I also suggest using Lucas Stop Slip Trans Fix when refilling the fluid. DO NOT OVERFILL AND DO NOT UNDERFILL. Take your time on putting new good fluid in not cheap stuff. If all this doesn't work or make a change then the next step is to replace your torque converter. This in involves taking the transmission out pulling the T converter out and replacing it you also have to do a fluid change regardless even after you try changing it the first time to see if it fixed your issue. Any shavings inside the torque converter will contaminate your new fluid if the first fluid change doesn't work therefore 2 fluid changes would be necessary if you don't solve the issue the 1st time after cleaning the solenoids. Try these steps and get back to me and we will go from there. I hope this helps as a brand new transmission is 4,000 dollars. Good luck and keep me posted.

My check engine on and code p0741 is coming up and dealer says i need a whole new transmission.

DTC P0741 TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SOLENOID PERFORMANCE (SHIFT SOLENOID VALVE SL)

There are several possible causes for this code. Yes, it COULD be that there is damage inside the transmission that will require transmission removal and overhaul. However, I have fixed this code a number of times by simply replacing the shift SL solenoid which is mounted externally on the transmission housing.

I would recommend taking your car to a shop that specializes in transmission repair and get a second opinion.

Engine light on got a code number p0741 would like to know what to try and do to fix before going to the service at dealership

This code PO741 is the Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Performance or Stuck Off. This may be an electrical problem or other problem with the transmission. Have you changed the fluid on your vehicle? As it is impossible to diagnose this on the internet, I suggest you take this vehicle to a professional and have it repaired before the transmission is ruined and you spend lots of money replacing it. Now is the time to get this repaired.
