No power on trailer plug for lt signal on a 2500 hd gmc

Left signal lite working on truck but not on trailer, after checking i have no power on the fractory six pin plug. On the plug protecter it shows the turn signal a stop pin, look at back side of plug the wire is yellow, look at the back of turn signal plug ithas back and light blue colour. Is this the problem? I would think it should be right from fractory.All of the other lites work on trailer except left turn signal..

Get the standard wiring design

Yellow is the left turn signal on pin 2
Check trailer plug and see if correct colors used on trailer plug
Would suggest getting a 12volt probe so you can test the car socket when left indicator is going on - flashing
To check that the correct pin has 12volts flashing left on it.

SOURCE: Trailer Brake Light Problem

try checking all the snap in connectors on the back side of the plug,
some times they get loose and/or corded.
if those are good you may have to run a wire trace. i'm not sure how much that would be, i charge 50.00 normally depending on the vehicle.

If your signals & brakes are on 2 different circuits, ( for example a red lens for stop & an Amber for turn.) then you'll need to buy a converter that goes between vehicle & trailer. They're not too expensive at any trailer or RV place. I think some of the autoparts stores stock them now too.

SOURCE: I have a 2003 GMC 2500 HD. The left directional

Strange as it might seem, I had a similar problem with my 2003 Sierra 2500HD. All lights on the truck worked fine, and all lights on the trailer worked fine with the exception of the right brake light. I chased all the obvious possible reasons, (blown fuse, shorted wiring, etc). It turned out to be a sticky relay in the flasher unit in the dash. It is located behind the fuse panel on the left side of the dash, and is accessed through a hole behind the lower panel under the steering column. I removed the fuse panel cover and the lower plastic panel under the steering wheel and was able to remove the flasher unit. I ordered a new one but before I installed, it I checked the old one. The plastic cover comes off easily. There are two small relays for the trailer lights and the one for the right side was stuck in the off position. I freed it up, using a toothpick, gave it a spray of conatact cleaner and re-installed it. It is working fine now. I kept the new flasher unit as a spare in case the problem arises again.

Your problem may not be the same as mine, but at least you will know where the $100.00 flasher is located!

Hope this helps,

Hooty

Trailer Wiring Standards (Color Codes/Plug Marks)

Hello all,

For those of you that have or occasionally borrow trailers and look at the wiring plugs with disdain (I mean face it they don't make sense, ground is white, +12vdc is black, etc), this is for you.

This will show you how to wire trailers with seven, six and four pin connectors

Plug Types/Application
7 Way - RV Trailers, Horse and Utility Trailers
6 Way - Horse, Stock and Utility
4 Way - Utility Trailers

Columns are: Color, Function, Mark on the plug.

Seven wire Trailer plugs (Large trailers with a battery and electric brakes):

Horse, stock or utility trailers:

White = Ground - 1
Blue = Electric Brakes - 2
Brown = Tail and clearance lights - 3
Black = Battery, aux power - 4
Yellow = Left turn/Brake - 5
Green = Right turn Brake - 6
Orange or Purple (not both) = Auxilliary or Reverse - 7

Recreational Vehicle:
White = Ground - 1
Blue = Electric Brakes - 2
Green = Tail and clearance lights - 3
Black = Battery, aux power - 4
Red = Left turn/Brake - 5
Brown = Right turn Brake - 6
Yellow = Auxilliary or Reverse - 7

Six wire trailer plugs:

Horse, stock or utility trailers:
White = Ground - GD
Yellow = Left turn/Brake -LT
Green = Right turn Brake -RT
Brown = Tail and clearance lights - TM
Red or Black (not both) = Battery, aux power - A
Blue = Electric Brakes - S

Recreational Vehicle: (color, use, plug mark)
White = Ground - GD
Yellow = Not used -
Brown = Right turn Brake - RT
Green = Tail and clearance lights -TM
Black = Battery, aux power - A
Red = Left turn/Brake - LT
Blue = Electric Brakes - S

Four wire plugs:
White = Ground
Yellow = Left turn/Brake
Green = Right turn Brake
Brown = Tail and clearance lights

Ground should be 10ga.
Others 14 ga

Best regards

No right signal lite to trailer plug

if you have a right signal on the truck and no signal on the trailer then you need to check the wire were it comes from the truck wire harness to the trailer plug. possibly a bad trailer plug also

2003 Dodge Ram 3500 left turn signal problems / trailer

Well let me shed some light on this issue. I have the same problem. Trailer connection from truck does not have power to left turn signal and left brake light. I just got back from the dealership and $100.00 labor charge. My problem is the TIPM (Fuse Box for short) and FCM (little silver module hooked to the Fuse Box on the left hand side of the fuse box). $910.00 for the parts and Chrysler doesn't have any in stock. 4-6 weeks to maybe fill a back order. I am currently researching an alternative way to fix this issue. I will let you know.

LEFT TRAILER TURN SIGNAL DOES NOT WORK

I have seen once before that the fuse box was bad on a 2003 Dodge 3500. I had power in and nothing out. We had to replace the box. Not cheap! Hope it is simple like a loose connection though. I think I had to pull the inner fender on the drivers side to access the bottom of the fuse box. Pain in the ****, but...

Left turn signal on trailer

ok tdknutson, I'm not clear on this, does the truck left turn signal stop working when u plug the trailer in, or is it the trailer left turn signal that's not working, or both? When u plugged in the test light did it show u had power to that plug in? Let me know the answer to the above, and in the meantime, check the ground on the turn signal at the trailer. Make sure it's not loose, and tightly connected to the frame (or wire). Also, what type plug in do u have? 4, 6, 7 wire?
