Check the fuel pressure. A slight dip in pressure will keep the engine from starting. When is the last time you did a tune up? Even if you are getting some spark you might not have enough. New plugs, wires, distr. cap could solve this problem. Or try a new fuel filter. When diagnosing a car problem always do simple cheap things first, as this usually ends up being the cause.

Check the condition of the spark plugs and possibly the gap of the valves. A common problem is the spark and fuel will make it to the engine but loss of valve gap, bad spark plugs or even a weak spark will cause this.

My 4 runner starts sometimes and won't other times, it justs cranks over but won't run

As with any no start issue, you will need to check for spark and fuel pressure when it won't start to know how to proceed.

My 1990 3.0 Toyota 4 runner won't start in the cold

If you have spark and fuel, the next stop would be either the crank position or camshaft position sensors.Either one of those can stop the engine from firing.

1990 corolla cranks fine but won't start. What is the troubleshooting process?

check to see if the timing belt is still moving the cams. you should be able to remove a couple of bolts on the top of the timing cover and pull the cover back far enough to see the belt.

You can also look in the oil fill cap, you may be able to see the cam.

you can also remove the distributor cap to see if the rotor is turning.

If the belt is fine than check for spark and fuel pressure.

My bet is the timing belt. Especially if the engine sounds like it is turning over faster than normal.

Truck wont crank. we have put new distributor cap, rotor button, coil pack, plugs, wires, and fuel pump. we also checked our firing order.

you said you repl dist cap that means you don't have a crank sensor you have electronic ing module. remove your elec ing module have it tested most auto parts stores could test your module, or check your coil at the neg terminal. should have power. if not you lost your primary volt from your batt.your secondary power is coming from your electronic ing module from the module to the pos terminal on the coil, when the eng cranks, from the coil to the dist cap , from the dist cap center to the rotor then out to the plugs, this all happen pervided the timing belt or timing chain is ok. the cumbustion chainber needs 3 things , thats fuel, air, and spark.

Its a 93 toyota celica it stopped runnin while driving. i towed it home when i tried to start it, it cranked like twice as fast as usual and wont fire.

your timing belt may have snapped!! When this happens, there is no compression preventing the engine to start up. Because there is no compression, the engine spines easily. Remove upper timing belt cover and inspect the belt. If broken, replace the water pump belt and tensioner pulley $400-$650 job!!

Drove it home everything was ok! went out the next

sounds like a broken timing belt, timing belts like to break during engine cranking and engine shut down. there are inspection holes in the timing cover,if you can't determine, remove top half of timing cover and check belt for slap,if there's slap,it's broke.

Could it be timing belt or fuel pump

you just answered your own question, turns over fast means no compression, from what you say the timing belt gave out

'96 Toyota 4-Runner makes a loud squealing noise and brake light

Sounds like one of the auxillary belts slipping it may just need tightening up. I think the 4-Runner has two belts one large and one for the steering pump
