1997 ES 300 How to reset anti-theft system when car won't start

I had to replace my battery and now the car won't start even though it sounds like it is trying to turn over. The dash lights and power controls for opening fuel door, trunk lid or windows are disabled. Thinking it is because the anti-theft system disabled the electronic starter and other items. How do I reset the anti-theft system? I already tried the locking and unlocking the car with my key, which didn't do anything.

1995 Lexus ES300 with the same problem. I had to replace the alternator and removed the negative battery cable as part of the procedure, and now the car won't turn over, windows and dash lights don't work, but dome and headlights do. I followed the owners manual instructions for reseting the anti-theft system to no avail.

With the doors shut, insert the key into the drivers door lock. Lock and unlock the door 5 times. This should reset the system. If that doesn't work you should contact a qualified repair shop.

Actual solution after taking the car to the Lexus service center: replace the alternator fuse (100 amp). I must have shorted something out while replacing the alternator and the fuse blew, and I guess did a good job because I never saw an arc. Thanks for the suggestions.
