1995 Volvo noise problem

I have an 1995 Volvo 940. It makes some humming noise from the engine area. I went out of town about a month. there was not any noise before. It started when I restarted my car when I came back from my trip. I drove it ans it seems to be OK. Please let me know what kind of noise it possibly is. Thanks.

Fuel filter bad, won't start?

Hi Zac first thing i would check is fuel pressure. remove fuel hose to fuel rail hold hose into container get some one to crank motor only for a few seconds and turn ignition off..if no fuel ! suspect; fuel pump . also listen for fuel pump to hum when turning ignition on it should make some noise! hope this gives you something to check. as a mechanic i have come across this as a problem before.

My 1995 940 Volvo just lost power while driving and stopped. After trying to restart the car it seemed like it just wasn't getting gas.

I had the same problem and fixed it with only one nut to remove and one easy plug in part the Crankshaft Position Sensor is located between the firewall and the engine on the bell housing which connects the engine to the driveshaft Right on the top shine a light down in there and remove the nut to the left of the sensor sticking up and unplug it check the wires to see if they are rotted mine were all rotted and touching eachother went and bought the part at autozone for $55 plugged it in and it now works perfectly! hope this helps

All of a sudden my engine is revving when in park (1995 Volvo 940)

How high do the RPMs go up? It could and usually is your idle air control valve(IAC). In the 940, it is not bolted into the intake, rather it bolted elsewhere underneath the intake and two rubber vacuum hoses connect it to the engine intake. If these hoses are ruptured, the your engine will rev up at idle. Also it could just be the IAC itself malfunctioning.

No spark

Behind the engine on top of the tranny bell housing is the crank angle sensor.  Try wiggiling the harness.

1995 Volvo 940 flywheel

1995 940 has a crank position sensor mounted at the top rear of the engine which reads cranks position off the flywheel. Though not adjustable, it is a part which fails often causing weird and intermittent no start/hard start problems as well as other faults. While the part is not too expensive, you do have to crawl on top of the engine to see it, and its a pain to replace. Guess you could remove the hood, but I have changed mine without doing so. Get light on the area, and you can do it. If you are having timing too far advanced issues (running on when killing engine or "pinging" on acceleration several other parts may be suspect. Knock sensor, spark plug issues, carbon buildup, O2 sensor, lean condition and more. Good luck.

Have you checked compression on non firing cylinders? Likely has blown head gasket between these two cylinders if located side by side.
