hi if the electrical side is ok leaves two options mechanical or fuel so if you can let me know what happened leading up to the car not starting i will be able to point you in the right direction it seems funny you should mention the security system [this does control the fuel pump but what makes you think this may be the problem, yates210456

SOURCE: vw passat 1.8t battery problem?

Hi

Either your battery has just given up the ghost,........ Is it the original, and now 10 yrs old ?
Or your Alternator is not charging enough, to replenish what is used.

Have battery tested first, if OK, then the alternator belt tension, and alternator for correct output charging rate.

If all these shows no faults, your starter is then suspect.

Good Luck !

A FixYa would be nice thanks !....John.

I have a 2001 VW Passat. It seems like it is possessed. The automatic window will go up without pressing the button. The speedometer shakes when I am stopped and shakes until I reach 65. Door locks

Best place to start is having the battery tested & replaced if needed. Then the battery cable connections cleaned & re-tightened. This is better than sprinkling with Holy water for a car.

2005 VW passat 1.9 TDi "immobiliser activated" on display

There may not be any other way to fix it except to replace your instrument panel. That's where your immobilizer is located. Or you could try this:

Try cold-booting the car. Remove both battery cables from the battery. Short the battery cables together (away from the battery) for about 15 seconds. Reconnect the battery. No guarantees - I found this info at tdiclub.com.

Hi

If the coolant temperature sensor is of the 4 wire type then these are a common failure on VW's.
