I just had a mechanic change my alternator, yet the battery dies. Could it be that the alternator was incorrectly installed?
Did you ask the mechanic to change the alternator,or did you tell him to fix it? I would spell it out to the customer myself(not the service writer) that I would prefer to do the diagnosis, but if they didn't want to pay it,then there are no guarantees, and document this on the back of the repair ticket(saved me MANY future arguements!).If you told the mechanic to fix it,then take it back and say "Try again!".If you said "Replace the alternator" then that's what will be done.If you have no change after replacing the alternator, then you have to figure out what's not making it charge.Verify the large cable to the battery is good with a test light. The smaller connector requires a wiring diagram to diagnose, however.

well Jennifer there is a quick way to do this start the engine lift the hood and remove the positive battery cable if the engine shut's off your altenators regulator is bad. Please note that is how I have always checked them. some mechanics believe that there is a potential for a battery to explode by doing this, however i never had this happen in 25 years of being a mechanic. you should still use caution when working on a vehicle . if the vehicle doesn't shut off then your battery is probabl;y no good. another altenative is take the vehicle to an auto parts store like Oreilly's and they will test the battery and altenator for you this is free of charge. please rate this thanks

Sounds like a loose connection on the starter or ignition circuit but more information is needed. When its not starting up, are there any noises from the engine bay? Have you checked for spark on the spark plugs? Are you getting error codes from the car's computer? Does the car idle 'weird'?
See if you can get a copy of the Haynes or Peterson's manual for your car.
Remember that its a Lexus, its going to cost money to fix.

I would inspect your wires at the starter. If you live up north then corrosion is bad, clean all wires going to starter. then clean wires to back of alternator. I seriously doubt that alternator is the problem, but if you remove it you can have it tested for free at most parts stores.
Testimonial: "Thank you! You was right, it was not the alternator, it was a 125 AMP that was blown."
