I have fault codes 2883 mixture preperation, bank 2 mixture too lean and fault code 2882 mixture preperation, bank 1 mixture too lean.. not listed on OBD11? The engine managment light comes on as a result and it's a bit lumpy at times ! What could be the problem
Bank 1 and 2 lean
lots of causes and tests, + tools, fuel pressure low not spec.
wrong air filters used or never serviced.
gross vacuum leaks behind MAF.
learn to test fuel rail pressure per the SM service manual.
to oem factory spec. PSI or BAR. , cranking of runs, the while running, to spec, to factory stated OEM pressure..

Im having the same codes with my bmw 2005 325I has anyone been successful
I'm getting code 2883 fuel trim an I have no fuel pressure an no start was starting fine then all of. Sudden it stop starting an battery died
mark the pump or filter or FPR is bad, no year BMW told. nor exact engine there or country.
no fuel pressure means
engine can not run
or done wrong
fuel pressure is done, cranking our running,
key on ONLY NOT started not cranking pressure is not reliable.
learn to do 2 man pressure tests,
cranking,
if down wrong you go broke fast guessing wrong and far far worse nasty bath in fuel dropping tank.
sure you cranked the battery dead, 100% normal on dead engines all.
so charge it with tool battery chargers
or jumper cable start it
if if dead still out comes the fuel pressure gauge fitted on to the fuel rail.
learn that 3 thing can fail here
filter clogged fuel
FPR bad stuck wide open and fuel pressure crazy too low to start the engine
and last the pump can be
dead
intermittent
or weak or all 3 at random.
that is what they do bad, in a real shop we use a scope on the pump + wire.
see if it has bad DC commutator noise
if does pump is bad. for sure.
we have youtube page on that 1 test.
on a dead engine
read SM page fuel pump.
see PSI spec. for rail.port.
cranking and running and WOT.
wot is wide open throttle,. i call it gunned fast (short time) to see PSI holds to spec. in the SM
service manual.
all I can do is teach how to do ASE tests.!!
I can't guess and frankly guessing is evil
for sure baths in fuel for sure.
find a shop get it diagnosed using real tools.
the other fuel PSI tests are
SM(RTM)read the manual.
Balance tests, Injectors, all.
and leak down test.
a shop does them all or gets COME BACKS.

SOURCE: have this code PO171, what does this mean.
Not sure that the O2 sensor was bad. It sounds like it was telling you that side of the exhaust system was picking up a lean mixure at the O2 sensor. The O2 sensor was doing its job by telling you the mixture changed. If the O2 sensor was bad, it would say low voltage range for that sensor, or open curcuit.
Now the car has had time to do its diagnostic sweep, it is telling you the same thing, but from a different sensor...the fuel mix is too lean. Air/spark/and fuel is what you need in the correct amounts. In your car, the ECM engine control module controls this by taking readings from all the sensors several hundred times a second.
Mechanically, you have a few options. Change the fuel filter...under the car on the passenger side. It is an easy job.
Change the fuel pressure regulator. This keeps the fuel at 4 BAR so the fuel injectors can do their job correctly. This job just needs a screw driver to pop off the clip that holds it in place. No hoses need to be removed. It is on top of the intake manifold, in-line with a metal fuel line and a rubber one.
The fuel injectors could be clogged up on one side of the engine. Run some fuel injector cleaner through a tank of gas. Also, listen for a constant ticking sound at each injector. If one sounds off PAR, then replace it.
The fuel pump may not be giving you enough power. However, the readings seem to be localized to one side, so I doubt it.
Start with the easiest thing, and see if it works. Also, you will need to get yourself a VAG scan tool. It is the only one with codes in it for all of your VW systems, not just engine codes like the ODB scanners. You can get a nice one for $50 on-line.
Good Luck!

I really hope helped with this. Remember rated this help, good luck.
SOURCE: what does engine fault code po171 system too lean bank 1 mean thanks
i think its the oxygen sensor (pre cat) in exhaust
SOURCE: Generic code PO171 system 2 lean bank 1 generic
This can be caused by a faulty mass air flow sensor

...any ideas anyone ???
Dennnis,
..OOps, Cheers Dennis, that helps.
I did find this on the internet...Is your Check Engine light on with BMW codes 2882 or 2883?...The OBDII (on-board diagnostics version 2) generic codes are P0171 P0174.. Don't let other shops mistakenly replace your air mass meter (MAF sensor). Your most likely problem is an incompatible air filter. The proper air filter for your car is supposed to have a foam backing that directs air through the system properly. The customer complains that the "Service Engine Soon" light is illuminated. The fault codes "2882/2883 - fuel trim, mixture too lean" are stored in the DME.Possible causes may include: incorrect air filter, unmetered air or a defective air mass meter.PROCEDURE...Remove and inspect the air filter element. Only the filter with the P/N 13 72 1 744 869 must be fitted. lf the filter is the correct one, please follow the test plan and repair accordingly.
I found the answer Christina.
I fixed it and it instantly became more economical and ran much better ! Was tricky, but I used to be a mechanic.
It was an air leak on the air induction side (right hand side of the engine as you stand at the front of the car looking at the engine).. A flexible rubber transport tube situated under the inlet manifold. (Not the technical name by the way!) A friend of mine done a 'powdered' induction pressure test which identified the area. He cost me £40. The part was about £35 and as I said, I managed to do it. It took about an hour.
So the answer simply put may well be is 'you have an air leak'. You just need it pressure tested and diagnosed.
