The filter on my car is located underneath the car by the fuel tank. I am not sure how the filter unscrews. I know I have to depressurize the fuel line first but the bolts have so much rust on them I'm not sure how to remove them. It would be very helpful if someone had an exploded view of the bolts and filter. Thanks if you can help.
Use a 10 socket to loosen the bracket over the filter.
Then use a 17 and 19 to loosen the one side. Hold the filter with one and loosen the nut with the other. Beware of leaking fuel then.
Then use a 19 and 27 to loosen the other side.
Mind when you putting ot back you dont strip the thread on the new filter. U might want toto Change the copper washers as well if they worn out.

Hi!
So far you have done all but change the leads! This will help dramatically BUT if your head gasket is blown I'm afraid you'll have real difficulty in get it to run smooth as water/steam is possibly mixing with the fuel causing very poor ignition.
I did the same as you on a Golf as soon as the new leads were fitted Bingo a New Car, However there wasn't a head gasket issue.
Good Luck and A Happy New Year to you and your Family.
