My 2008 Subaru Outback continues to have delayed shifting. The problem occurs most often when turn right up a slight incline. Recently, the same problem occured when shifting from 1st to 2nd. As I turn and gently step on the gas, the engine rpm's increase, but the transmission hesitates before shifting. The shift seems to "stutter" before engaging. I have reported the problem to Subaru, at least twice, and before the warrantee expired..

Check both O2 sensor(s) and catalytic coverter.. P0420 means catalyst below threshold. Also check the sensor at the transmission and solenoid.

p.s. If you have the fluid changed, make sure it's done from the tranmission pan, not through the filler tube; siphoning through the filler tube can be hazardous to the transmission, especially cars with a lot of miles

What you need to check is the transmission release bearing because if there is a clearance on the release bearing you will encounter this problem and also check the transmission oil.
