Check the brake light switch (location pedal) unplug the switch & bridge the wires & if the brake lights come on the switch is faulty. all you are doing by bridgeing the wires is bypassing the switch. What is SLS?

  • Sean Oct 10, 2012

Thanks, but the SLS is the stop light switch.

  • Anonymous Oct 11, 2012

Ok, you should have power at one side of the switch with the ignition on. if you have power there you need to trace back towards the brake light till you find a break in the circuit. Remember to check all the globes, Maybe start at the globes & work back from there. The circuit should go from the brake light fuse to the switch to the brake lights

SOURCE: can some post the 1999 gmc sierra wiring diagram

you don't have enough pressure in your system. odds are you have a leak someplace and the factory installed a saftey switch to keep the ac from running when there is no pressure. This way you don't end up burning up your compressor.

SOURCE: 95' Buick regal, 3rd brake light works, tail

I dont have a diagram but the brake light switch has to feed the turn signal switch, Either that wire has a bad connection, or the turn signal switch is bad. Jiggle the turn signal lever and see if the brake lights try to work.

My abs light is on in my 95 villager as well as my check engine light, I got a trouble code of 55 I replaced the brakes still can't get rid of abs light or check engine light what can the problem be?

code 55 on a 95 villager means "no codes found". If you are getting this code but the check engine light is on as well as the ABS light, then there is a good chance there is a problem with the ABS system itself. Manufacturers will often set it up so that multiple trouble lights will turn on to get your attention in the event of a major problem. If these lights are on together but you are getting 55, you will need to check the ABS system. It could be low brake fluid, or a problem with the ABS pump... There is also a chance that there is a blown fuse for either the ABS system or the diagnostics system which could also cause lights to turn on. One other possibility is that they are on for a factory set maintenance/service interval, meaning Mercury may have set these lights to turn on at a pre set mileage so that you will have the ABS system inspected at that point, although I don't believe this was very common in 95. My best advice is to check your fuses and fluid level, if none of these are the problem it might be a good idea to seek the help of a professional garage, you should never take chances when you're brakes are involved. Good luck :)

95 mustange gt brake light dont work check #9 fuses change all bulbs replaced switch on brake pedal hazards lights works ,parking or running lights works, turning signal lights works, what other places i...

I assume the fuse has power if the hazards work.
The third brake light skips the turn signal switch, the regular brake light circuit goes thru the turn signal switch.
Do you have power going into the turn signal switch on the red lite green wire from the brake switch ?

These are all different circuits. The brake lights are on a 10amp fuse - the headlights are on a 50amp fuse - and the parking and dash lights are on a 20amp fuse.
Do you have power going into the headlight switch and the brake light switch ?

Can not get brake lights to work on 95 buick regal. Have switched out flasher unit and brake light switch.

Have you changed the brake lights? This may be a problem with the wiring harness. If this needs to be replaced, it may be a difficult job to tackle.

I have a 1992 Buick La Sabre Custom. My brake lights are not working but taillights, turn signals and hazard lights do work. Switch ok. fuse ok. ????????

if your fuse is good. and you have power at the brake light switch and when you hit the brakes you have power coming out the otherside of brake light switch/which would be the white wire/ check that the white wire is sending power up the turn signal switch. if theres power there and your turnsignals work? im afraid that your turnsignal switch is bad rare but it has been known to happen.

Stop lites out but stop lite in back window works. Blinkers and hazard work. The fuse box contents do not match the fuse box diagram. Only think I noticed is that the ABS light does not come on at all...

An easy way to test the switch is to jumper the wires together. If the brake lights come on you know the switch is bad. If not, then you have to look elsewhere in the system to solve the problem.

1998 gmc sierra-no brake lights,bulbs ok,new brake switch,possible wiring?? Help

Try this possibilities to locate the fault. First get your voltmeter or 12v test lamp out. Check the 30 amp Brake (#2) maxi fuse in the under hood junction box.Fuse should have 12v at both sides at all times.
If okay proceed.
Go to the brake light switch. The orange wire should have 12v at all times. The white wire should have 12v when stepping on the brake.
If okay, proceed.
Next thing is the brake lamp relay in the underhood fuse box. Swap the relay with one that looks just like it and recheck the brake light operation. If the relay is no good replace it.
If the relay is swapped and still not working, see if you can feel the relay clicking when someone else steps on the brake pedal.

batt is power from the maxi fuse 12v all times
sls is the white wire from the brake switch 12v with brake applied.
gnd is body ground 0v all times
mfs goes to the multi function switch 12v with relay activated
the circuit is simple—power from the brake light switch white wires turns on the relay which then sends power back to the multifunction switch for distribution to the rear lights.
if you jump terminals batt and mfs the brake lights should come on.
If you have no power at terminal sls with the brake applied then you have a wiring fault white wire between the brake light switch and the relay
Thanks. Keep updated for any more query. You can rate this solution and show your appreciation.

95' Buick regal, 3rd brake light works, tail lights work, turn signals work, stoplight switch seems to work ie 3rd brake light working, fuse is ok, changed bulbs, but no rear brake lights.

If the third brake light works and the regular ones don't, it is most likely a bad turn signal (multifunction) switch. The switch is able to kill the brakes lights to run the turn signals, and in rare circumstances does this. I've seen it several times. It could also be wiring, especially near the turn signal switch, but it is usually the switch.
