2003 Subaru Outback check engine light stays on

I have 2003 Subaru Outback, 4 cylinder. The check engine light came on indicating a problem with the idle air control valve. I have since replaced the idle air control valve and the PCV valve and also disconnected the battery to reset the computer but I still get the check engine light coming on and off with the same diagnostic code. It will stay on for a short while or a few days and then stay off for days or weeks at a time. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You may have to take it to a shop and have them connect their OBD tool to the computer and clear the deep memory. If you have a code left in the deep memory it can reapear like that. Good luck. Please rate me so I know how I'm doing. Thanks.

I have the Subaru Outback 2003, with the same problem, I have traced it down to the mass air flow sensor, I have cleaned the MAS butterfly from the air cleaner side with MAS cleaner, and use injector cleaner once a month, I still get the light every couple of months but not as often. It was worse when it was wet out. good luck

I have a 99 Subaru Legacy (Outback, 2.5L). The check engine light has come on and the codes indicate Cylinder 3 and Cylinder 4 misfires. The light came on about two weeks ago, and occasionally disapears...

hi the cylinder misfire codes are usually pretty specific, if you have replaced the above and it still hasnt fixed the problem try replacing the ignitor or the ecu as thats all it can be left causing the problem

Every time I get gas the check engine light comes on in my Subaru Outback 2003

try replacing the gas cap, u may have a leaking pressure relief valve in the cap, this can turn on the check engine light as it is sensing a fuel vapor leak.

When do I replace timing belt on a 2003 Subaru Outback 4 cylinder?

Well the timing belt should be changed every 60,000 miles or every 4 years.Whichever comes first.

My 2003 subaru outback starts cutting out when i turn right and the check engine light starts blinking when i go back straight it stops and the light goes off

Sounds like something is loose. I would check the Electrical connections. If not check the Vacuum lines and intake to Manifold for loose parts or broken lines. I wish you luck and have a good day.

Subaru Outback - '03 boxer 2.5L engine sounds like a diesel

heavier oil if you are not in a cold climate. but before you do that have the oil pressure checked. We used to use a can of STP every once in a while on a motor in a dodge we had... nothing wrong with it... was just noisy.
