What size/type socket do I need to remove spark plug on my Ryobi 2300 generator. I've tried 1/2 thru 13/16 and none fit.

i cross referenced the spark plug (LD A7RTC)
and got the NGK equivalent:

SKU: #CR7HS
ITEM : # NGK7223
BRAND : NGK
Then got the specs off the NGK site

NGK 7223 CR7HS Nickel Spark Plug

It should be a 5/8" (16mm) spark plug socket.

Can i use a ruler to measure gap on spark plug

If your can see the difference between .020 (20 thousands) and .025 (25 thousandths) of an inch than you may not need a gap tool.
A $3 spark plug gap tool is a must, you can get it at any auto parts store. Also if your spark plug is stuck in the socket, get a new socket and spark plug, but if you need it now take the socket wrench off the socket and place the socket in a vice. Then with the biggest screwdriver that will fit in the socket wrench hole, place the screw driver tip on the top of the spark plug stuck in the socket and hit the other end of the screw driver with a hammer until the spark plug comes out...... get a bigger hammer. note: the old spark plug may not survive.

How to change spark plugs

REMOVAL PROCEDURE
  1. Remove the ignition control modules.
  2. Clean the spark plug recess area with low pressure air.
CAUTION: Wear safety glasses when using compressed air, as flying dirt particles may cause eye injury.

NOTE: Clean the spark plug recess area before removing the spark plug. Failure to do so could result in engine damage because of dirt or foreign material entering the cylinder head, or by the contamination of the cylinder head threads. The contaminated threads may prevent the proper seating of the new plug. Use a thread chaser to clean the threads of any contamination.
117381099
  1. Remove the spark plugs from the cylinder heads.
NOTE: Allow the engine to cool before removing the spark plugs. Attempting to remove the spark plugs from a hot engine may cause the plug threads to seize, causing damage to cylinder head threads.
  1. Inspect the spark plugs. Refer to Spark Plug Inspection.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
  1. Measure the spark plug gap on the spark plugs to be installed. Compare the measurement to the gap specifications.
NOTE:
  • Use only the spark plugs specified for use in the vehicle. Do not install spark plugs that are either hotter or colder than those specified for the vehicle. Installing spark plugs of another type can severely damage the engine.
  • Check the gap of all new and reconditioned spark plugs before installation. The pre-set gaps may have changed during handling. Use a round feeler gage to ensure an accurate check. Installing the spark plugs with the wrong gap can cause poor engine performance and may even damage the engine.
117381099
  1. Install the spark plugs to the cylinder heads.
NOTE:
  • Be sure that the spark plug threads smoothly into the cylinder head and the spark plug is fully seated. Use a thread chaser, if necessary, to clean threads in the cylinder head. Cross-threading or failing to fully seat the spark plug can cause overheating of the plug, exhaust blow-by, or thread damage.
  • Refer to Component Fastener Tightening Notice in Service Precautions.
Tighten the spark plugs to 20 N.m (15 lb ft) .
  1. Install the ignition control modules.

I have a 1993 Geo Prizm LSI, that cranks, but will not start, and has no spark. The problem began as a cold engine hard starting problem, but after I replaced the distributor with a rebuild, it stopped...

Are you sure you got the dustributor in the right tooth? Check timing using procedure at link below. Or, maybe you got a bad rebuilt. Here are some tests to check it out:
1993
See Figures 6 and 7
  1. Check for spark at each spark plug with a spark tester. Check at least 2 plug wires.
  2. If spark is only detected at some plugs, check for a faulty distributor cap or rotor. Also check the spark plugs and plug wires. Replace, if necessary.
  3. Measure the resistance of the distributor connector C1 when cold, between terminals 3 and 6, using a digital voltmeter. If the camshaft position (CMP) sensor resistance is not between 185-275 ohms, replace the distributor housing.
  4. Measure the resistance of the distributor connector C1 when cold, between terminals 2 and 5, using a digital voltmeter. If the camshaft position (CMP) sensor resistance is not between 370-550 ohms, replace the distributor housing.
  5. Measure the resistance of the distributor connector C1 when hot, between terminals 3 and 6, using a digital voltmeter. If the camshaft position (CMP) sensor resistance is not between 240-325 ohms, replace the distributor housing.
  6. Measure the resistance of the distributor connector C1 when hot, between terminals 2 and 5, using a digital voltmeter. If the camshaft position (CMP) sensor resistance is not between 475-650 ohms, replace the distributor housing.
  7. Measure the air gap between the signal rotor and the camshaft position (CMP) sensor. If the air gap is not 0.008-0.016 inch (0.2-0.4 mm), replace the distributor housing.

I have no spark at plugs coil has good spark

If you have spark at the coil then you have a good coil. You can't measure Ohm at a spark plug since it is alway open at the gap. But you can OHM measure a spark plug wire at both end. If you have nothing mean your wire is bad. You can swap one more wire to confirm a bad wire. If your wire is not bad then I recommend to replace both rotor and distributor cap. Good luck in locating the problem.

CHECKING IGNITION COILS
1. Measurement of the primary coil resistance. Measure the resistance between connector terminals 3 and 1 (the coils at the No. 1 and No. 4 cylinder sides) of the ignition coil, and between terminals 3 and 2 (the coils at the No. 2 and No. 3 cylinder sides).

2. Measurement of the secondary coil resistance. Measure the resistance between the high-voltage terminal for the No. 1 and No. 4 cylinders, and between the high-voltage terminals for the No. 2 and No. 3 cylinders. Be sure, when measuring the resistance of the secondary coil, to disconnect the connector of the ignition coil.959e0ec.gif

CHECKING SPARK PLUG CABLES 1. Check the cap and outer shell for cracks. 2. Measure the resistance Spark plug cable (SOHC)
Resistance should not be higher than 10,000Ω per foot of cable. If resistance is higher, replace the cable.
