My best friends 04 Jetta keeps blowing the 150 fuse in the fuse box she replaced after replacing the alternator harness and wire. She just installed a new battery and the pos battery cable is not tig

The alternator wire got hot and caught on fire twice. We replaced it and the entire fuse box. We have had the alternator tested, it is fine. The only thing new is the battery. She showed me the battery and I noticed the positive connection from the battery cable is missing the bolt and "T" to tighten it down. I also noticed that the fuse box is just sitting on top of the battery and the battery cover is gone. I have replaced cylinders 2 and 4. I don't know what I'm doing, but we are figuring most of this stuff out. I think the fuse is getting blown because something is grounding out, or a wire is hitting something. I really appreciate the help. She is a single mother, upside down on this car, and doesn't have much help. She works 2 jobs. So, it's GIRLS FIXING THE CAR...we joke about it, but at this point it's dangerous. I told her to disconnect the battery and leave it alone until we get further info or help, Thank you, Emalie

By the way. We also have recently fixed the hose to the water pump. Now the car is in limp mode, which I can check the faults, but I'm NOT hooking up the battery until I figure out where the wire or if the battery is touching the hood, or whatever..still need to head over there and take a good look at the harness replacement and at the battery and box.

Also, when the 150 fuse blew she popped in a 120, or 110, that got her to her driveway and blew immediately after that.

Look for any bare or exposed wires, use a multimeter to find shorts.

SOURCE: Car wont start oe even crank.

some cars have a problem when you change the car radio it can trigger the alarm system the alarm may think that car was being stollen and kicked in the immobiser which would turn off the starter motor which is giving the affect the batts flat,, plus a lot of the ford and vauxhalls when this happens it also shuts down the fuel pump, or ignition ,, if you have the key pad to lock and unlock car use this a couple of times this can reset the system . if not it may have to go to the main dealer to do a computor check to find fault and may be 10 mins to put right ,, matdav69

Will a blown fuse keep a dodge the coda 2000 with a 4.7 from starting the fuses 140 amp fuse that runs from the battery to the alternator

Hi Kelly, IM AL the owner of Big As Auto Repair.

YES Kelly that fuse will keep the vehicle from starting, If you install a new fuse and it blows again you most likely have a shorted alternator, to check it out, simple unhook the power wire from the back of the alternator, install a new fuse and if it does not blow again then replaced the alternator with a new one. CAUSION: Please be very careful not to let the power wire from the alternator touch anything be cause it can melt something. Best way is to unhook the battery, take the wire off and wrap it with a towel then hook the battery back up and do your test with the fuse. Hope this helps and please visit my auto-repair-website:

2003 f 150 transmission overdrive fuse

The problem is that either the wiring harness going to the overdrive control motor has chafed and is shorting out, or the overdrive control motor is bad. Check out the wiring harness VERY carefully, if it's OK replace the control motor.

My 89 civic lx keeps blowing the battery fuse everytime I connect the battery

My first guess would be a short inside the alternator, so if you have replaced it, look for a shorted wire in the harness.
Disconnect the wires from the alternator and everything connected to the battery, then connect one at a time until the fuse blows.
Could be a problem with the starter solenoid too.

HOW TO FIX P0320

Hello! The code is indicating a defective Crankshaft Positioning Sensor (CPS) or the wiring to it ...But before you replace that sensor be advised that a Technical Service Bulletin has been written for this fault...TSB-#04-14-09...The harness from the Alternator rubs against the engine. ..Besides chaffing the pins inside the alternator connecter (male & female) are susecptible to corrosion...Check your VIN# and let me know if your vehicle was built before or after 4/2/04...After 4/2/04 a protective sleeve was installed over the harness...Also check the harness from the alternator to see if the sleeve has been installed..............Send a comment and I'll take it from there if the CPS is in-fact defective......Guru...saailer

2008 Ford Escape Horn fuse keeps blowing after replacing alternator. Horn sounds once then the fuse blows. Also radio and song info that displays in the dash console with the compass does not work... The...

I would trace the wire from the horn and see if it was inadvertently damaged when the alternator was installed. If you have a voltmeter, you can remove the horn fuse and check to see if there is continuity between the horn (non hot side) of the fuse and the car body. This would indicate a short in the wire running from the fuse box to the horn. You can also look around the alternator mounting area to see if any wires are being pinched. Hope this helps. Good luck!

Electrical. alternator fuse link keeps blowing

The wiring harness coming from the solonoid/power distribution has one small guage wire splitting into three different medium guage wires. I have ran into this problem quite often on mustangs, and what I have found that works is take the split out of it, and run all three wires with fusible links added to them straight from the solonoid
