Using the 4x4

There is a problem in the 4X4 system, have the fault codes read by the dealer or well equipped repair shop of your choice.

The grands come in two different 4x4 setups.One is part time and will have 2 hi 4 hi neutral and 4 low on the shift indicator.The other option is all wheel drive and it will have 4 hi neutral 4 low.If you have the first option run it in 2 hi unless you have snow then use 4 hi.If you have the second option the run it in 4 hi .Good luck!

Depends, do you have 4 wheel drive? If so you can just use 4 wheel high, or if things get really slippery, use 4 wheel low and go slow, both in the drive position on the transmission shifter.

If 2wd, just use drive and go slow, again, if it gets slippery out, you can shift down in gears to go slower and to keep your speed slow.

If you're talking about snow and ice on just streets, then stick with 4 wheel high with 4x4, or "drive" in 2wd. You typically don't want to switch to 3,2, or 1st gear at highway speeds.

If you're playing in the snow, just use 4x4 high until you get stuck, then switch to 4 low to get out.

The only time I switch gears with the transmission (from drive to 3,2, or 1) is when I want to go really slow and keep it there. However, when I "play" in the snow, it's Drive only.

The 4x4 systems on those are mostly electical. I've had many fords have problems with the 4x4 electic motor mounted on the transfer case. In most cases if you tap on the transfer case motor when trying to engage 4x4 it will start to work. This is most likely if 4x4 is seldom used.

i haven't solved this yet but eventually 4wd wil not engage

vehicle must be in neutral with foot on brake to disengage 4x4 low

the expeditions had a problem with the rear wiper motor grounding out, i would try replacing the wiper motor first, as for the fuse blowing, it is blowing for a reason, fuses don't just blow. if the wiper motor does not fix you may need to have someone go thru the electrical pin point tests to find the short.

use part time on wet or slippery road surfaces. Use full time in snow.
Though some will shift into different modes at a standstill, I generally do so when rolling at 5-20mph...it makes engagement easier on the transfer case. when driving on dry road surfaces, why use 4x4? it uses more fuel and really has little benefit. differences in front/rear wheel speed must be absorbed by transfer case alone, while on slippery surfaces, a bit of tire slippage reduces stress on unit.

well you can keep it in 2 wheel drive or you can put it in 4 high depending how fast you will be going i had my nissan pathfinder in 4 high during the storm i had here in wa.... 4 low is mor for going on trails and climbing

it sounds like your front automatic locking hubs are stuck locked try putting it back in four backing up a little bit put it in neutral and take it off 4wd and back up again if this doesnt work you will need to replace the hubs in the front
