I have done this and the procedure calls for removing the exhaust crossover which you don't really have to do however it is a tight fit and probably will make life easier to get a wobble extension since some of these bolts you cant get right over. It is located on the driver side under the exhaust crossover and a few small waterlines must be removed in order to access it. If I remember correctly the bottom bolt on the housing does not have to be taken out all the way to get it off. the hard part is getting to bolts loose, Just take your time and realize its a hard place to work in.

Grand prix thermostat going up and down

I'm assuming that you mean that the temp gauge is reading "High" and then dropping back to normal(?).

Check your coolant levels first. If there's plenty of juice in the coolant reservoir then I would just jump in and change the thermostat. While you're at it check your hoses too!

Gets hot when idle got fan hooked up to a toggle switch

have you replaced the thermostat if not do so. it needs to be replaced at least every 3 years and change the anti-freeze every time the anti-freeze manufacturer requires. Also never run a car without a thermostat. Your thermostat may be stuck open or even closed. Never run just plain water as a coolant.

Yes. Remove the housing (not the hose) and you'll find the thermostat.

My pontiac grand am 2003 is running hot. the

Change the thermostate, if that doesn't work it might need a new water pump and new hoses. Try getting the radiator flushed.

Where is the thermostat located on a 2003 grand am gt 3.4 V6

The thermostat is located just under the exhaust manifold you will see that a metal pipe leads from the water pump to where the thermostat housing is. You must to remove two screws from where this pipe meets the housing and it is a pain to do unless you remove the exhaust manifold or have small hands.

THE CAR DON'T GET TO THE RIGHT TEMPERATURE

i dont think it needs a waterpump. what temperature thermostat did you put in? unless the fan is running all the time maybe. i would try another thermostat, the engine needs to be at least 195 degrees to produce decent heat.
