2001 Grand Caravan Loud Knocking Noise

A 2001 Grand Caravan w/3.8L V6, just over 100K miles. When cold, a loud knocking sound happens when engine is rev'd. Once the engine warms up, the knocking can be heard at idle. The engine warning light is on.

I believe it might be the knock sensor that has gone bad. If so, where is it located on this engine.

If you have any other suggestions, I'm all ears.

Knocking or rattling/pinging sound? If it is a knock, that's not a good sign, and first thing I'm going to ask is if oil level is up & when was it last changed along with filter. When did noise occur?

2001 Lincoln Town Car Sig. .. loud knocking noise and the noise speeds up when reved or driven? what do you think is the problem? I had an oil change using 10/40 but the noise is still the same? can it be...

A loud knocking noise like you've described if it's in the lower end of the engine, is usually a Crankshaft Rod Bearing. If the knocking noise is in the top end of the engine, it is usually a lifter or a rocker arm. Either one doesn't sound good and can be expensive. You can continue driving until it stops completely or you can do as the autozone suggested and use an oil thickner such as STP although none of them work very long or quiet them down for long.

Loud ticking/knocking/rattling sound when I start/accelerate

hi is it miss-firing as it sounds like a knocking noise can be anything but if you can feel it on the accelerater pedal then the noise sounds like its on the inlet valve side which would transfere the noise up the throttle body where the accelerater is located it could be something as simple as a tappet come loose to a burned valve you need to have a look do a compression test and take the rocker cover off see if theres anything come loose yates210456
