I'm trying to find out how to replace the speed sensor on a 1996 Silverado K2500 and also if there are two (2) of them in the vehicle.
There are two speed sensors, one is called an input shaft speed sensor and the other an output speed sensor. both control transmission but the out put also controls speedometer,
To replace any of these is not hard, they are bolted on the outside of transmission, you will remove the bolt holding them in and then they slide out, the input shaft speed sensor is located on the front left side of the transmission. the output speed sensor is located on the left side of the transfer case. good day

Very loose front wheels bearings can cause this.

you need a resister found under your air duct by the passenger floor under dash board auto zone sells these for about 25.00 you may as well buy cabin air filters while your at it . 1 of the screws will be a pain to install back into the duct work I left mine out didn,t make a difference . you might have to order it as they are a comman item oh you will need a vacuum to clean up mess from cabin air filters .this is not a hard job .

If your idle is going from 500rpms to 1000rpm's fluctuating at and idle your EGR valve is probably carbon up and needs cleaned or replace.

Have you performed a tune up? If not, it's time for one. spark plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor.

above were your electrical plugin plugs up on the rear left of transmission. that is your output shaft speed sensor.
