You need a repair shop with an EVAP Smoke Machine
& evap system diagrams for your vehicle, to test, to find
a leaking hose or bad solenoid

Check that the gas cap is on properly

SOURCE: When i make a complete stop the cart takes a while to accelerate?

Millions of cars have that issue

The Evap System, will most easily be diagnosed &
your Gross Leak resolved,if you have a repair shop
with an EVAP Smoke Machine put on that system

The Gas Cap would be a PO442 (small leak) The way you
remember is, from the Hurst Olds 442, from the 1960's

The smoke test will blow some out the place of the leak,
like a rotted hose or broken evap valve.

Slow Acceleration---you work on after all check light issues
are resolved such as the evap leak.

SOURCE: evap control system gross leak

Okay, the code you got must be po455, the evap system is a system that is sealed or open and its for the fuel tank vapors, the computer controls it and if the computer closes the vent valve to seal the system and doesnt see the system build vac or pressure it turns on the light, this system takes the fumes from the tank and filters in through a carcoal canister and then it reburns it or releases it into the air after its filtered, this system is to help the ozone . you will not notice any diffrent driving just the light to tell you there a problem, a gross leak just means its looses vac fast, the most common reason for this may be the gas cap is loose or off, check the gas cap first, if its loose then tighten it and you will need to drive about 100miles depending on the type of driving you do, this will reset the light, if the cap is on and is tight then you may have a bad vent valve or a broken vacuum hose, this is not dangerous and wont leave you stuck on the road but i would have it checked to see what the problem is, this is only if its not the gas cap, heres a diagram to help you under stand it better, hope this is helpful have a good day.johnjohn2_75.gif

SOURCE: service engine soon light

Sometimes if you leave your gas cap loose or you don't get it on right it can set this code. Check your gas cap and clear code with your scanner. If it comes back on you will need to take it into your dealer as it should be under warranty.

2008 gmc envoy check engine light on for months

The evaporative (EVAP) emission system is all about controlling fuel vapors. When a leak develops, it allows the vapors to enter the atmosphere which is harmful to the environment. Modern vehicles therefore have been designed with a system to detect when a leak is present. There are several different Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) than can be set for EVAP leaks including those for very small, small, or gross (large) leaks. The most common gross/large leak is from a loose or damaged fuel cap. Because it's the most common, people often assume that the gas cap is the culprit even though it could be elsewhere in the system. Some vehicles even have a fuel cap indicator light that makes this same assumption. If you have a DTC for an EVAP leak and/or the fuel cap indicator light is on and you've already replaced the gas cap, then an EVAP leak test should be performed to locate the true source of the leak. You can read more about large EVAP leaks and the associated warning indicators here: https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/what-does-the-fuel-cap-warning-light-mean-by-spencer-cates

I have 2000 Montana. Service Eng light on, a check says: P0440 -- evaporated emission cntrl system small leak/low flow condition. Explanation: defective or loose fuel cap, evvap canister or hose cracked-...

P0440 small evap leak, If it was purge at fault the PCM would give you a purge failure code, If it was that vacuum leak you are hearing you would of have lean bank code, anything with the evap in the engine compartment is purge, the back where the fuel tank is or the canister is evap. so you have evap problem, slow leak a broken hose would be gross leak detected. as for electrical it would be solenoid evap.fix the gas cap. 3_17_2012_9_11_41_pm.jpg

CHECK GAS CAP / ENGINE SERVICE ARE ON

Most likely an evap system fault code stored in engine computer. Best bet and cheapest thing is go to the dealer and buy a new cap. Install the cap and drive the car for a few days if the light goes off, your all set, if not you need to check for codes. Then probably find a leak or a faulty evap vent valve or purge valve.

Evaporative gas leak (gross)

Find the leak in the EVAP system. Most likely a hose that is cracked and fallen off. Should still be under warranty though.
