I recently brought my 98 sts to a mechanic to repair the shock. The shocks were replaced with after market shocks, but in return for a smooth ride, my windows don't work. I can not get the windows up and down on any of the doors and with any of the controls. I have checked the breakers and fuses and they are all good. Interestingly enough, everything else works, that is the power locks and mirror control.
You checked the DRVMDL fuse in the rear fuse box ? The rear fuse box under the back seat. Also the PWR WDO circuit breaker in the rear fuse box.

YES - Go to Step 2
NO - Go to Diagnostic System Check - Power Door Systems
2
Remove the PWR WDO circuit breaker.
Using a DMM, measure the resistance between circuit breaker terminals.
Is the resistance within the specified range?
0-5 ohms
YES - Go to Step 4
NO - Go to Step 3
3
Replace the PWR WDO circuit breaker.
YES - Is the replacement complete?
--
NO - Go to Diagnostic System Check - Power Door Systems
--
4
Using a DMM, measure the voltage between both rear junction block PWR WDO circuit breaker #57 terminals and ground.
Is the voltage within the specified range for either measurement?
10-15 V
YES - Go to Step 5
NO - Go to Power Distribution Schematics .
5
Repair CKT 1040 for an open or high resistance at rear junction block.
Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Is the repair complete?

SOURCE: Gas or Oil shock & Struts
pressurized fluid or gas is one in the same, gas shocks give a harsh ride but better handling, standard shocks are not pressurized they are just a simple hydraulic dampener, when you go over a bump fluid is pulled back and forth through a fixed orfice, this stops spring oscillations in the suspension.
SOURCE: does a 1999 chrysler 300M use shock absorbers or struts?
if front wheel drive its struts
if rear wheel drive its shocks
this is how you tell them apart
SOURCE: 1998 seville sts check suspension light stays on.
that system has a pump, you should hear it run when you start the car. it also has a bleed valve. i have seen the valve get stuck before. i don't remember what year caddillac stopped putting the suspension switch in the trunk, but if the switch has been turned off the light will remain on as well. there is a level sensor under the rear of the car connected to the suspension you can try to disconnect the arm and manually move it and see if the pump kicks on. there is a few second delay before you hear the pump. if the fuses are good and the switch is on check for voltage at the pump when you move the level sensor. check for signal from the sensor. if pump runs and shock don't air up check for air leaks with soap water spray, and/or air bypassing valve. hope i helped you...dustang
SOURCE: what is the service ride control error? i thought
it means there is a problem with the air suspension.
SOURCE: air shock on 03 escalade wont air up. Service ride
may be a bad shock warning these are expensive.or could be a bad ride leveler or height sensor
