I believe without seeing it, that your turn signal assembly may need to be replaced. take it ti Advance Auto or Auto Zone, they will usually check it for free.

2003 kia rio car die

Sounds like a timing belt issue. Pull the spark plugs and check for damage. This engine is an interference engine which means there probably will be head and piston damage. A used engine will be about $1400 or so. If you can do the work the wrecking yards will be the best place to find a replacement head and pistons. Obviously you want to buy new gaskets.

My parents are repairing a 2003 kia rio that had been slightly wrecked. He is having an issue with the turn signal switch. Here is the email they sent me. I sure hope you can help. ,........i cant get the...

Since the lights themselves work there is not a power or fuse issue. Therefore it must be at the switch, which leaves either of three options:
  1. Least likely: Turnsignal stalk is not getting power, which comes from the ignition key/switch. See it it works with the key on, but before cranking the engine. test to see if it works with the key in the ACC mode. If these work, then the connection from the ignition switch to power the stalk when running is disconnected.
  2. Likely: The stalk switch is not connected properly or a connection has come off. Check all electrical connections to the stalk switch unit in the steering column.
  3. Most likely: The stalk switch itself is broken or damaged and needs to be replaced. Replacements can be found at (in order of most-to-least expensive) at your dealer, at RockAuto.com (or similar online parts stores) or at your local pick-and-pull dismantlers. Check eBay in case the part is listed there, but it's unlikely.
Hope this helps.
