Alternator not charging: 1990 B-350, 5.9

I get a code 41 from a scan. replaced the alernator, all wire connections clean and good. what can I do?

    Brand new. I even took one back because it didn't work.

    I believe the voltometer is working correct.It read charging before this problem. When I scanned the computer I got the 41 code. I hadn't had that code before. I think the alternator is new although the original was a Boshe. I recharged the battery the other day and when I ran the truck today the voltage didn't drop very much after running for half an hour w/ the headlights and heater blowing on high. Also, one site said that there's a voltage regulator seperate from the alternator. It's supposed to be "under the engine cover, on the passenger side firewall". I couldn't find it inside or outside on the firewall. Any ideas?

    same problem on a '91 15 passenger., new (rebuilt) alternator, new battery,,, won't recharge at all. don't know about the wiring.

    I checked the main (dark green) fusible link, it's still in tack. I misplaced the wiring schematic but I know there are 4-5 fusible links that spur off of it. My plan is to check the other links. Seems like it has to be a bad connection in that area.

    When you replaced the altyernator was it rebuilt or brand new, or form a bone yard?

    When you bought this curent alternator.did you have them bench test the piece and make sure it was working?



    If the alternator is good, it could be your guage is defective...electrical problems are the most dificult to solve, but don't give up..



    Let me know what brand alternator you have, and if it's been rewound, or if it comes straight from the manufacturer...please make sure you ask if it's new or refurbished......that one question can save you alot of headaches.

the computer controlled alternator is a very good and reliable circuit-if your engine ground is good from the battery negative terminal and your positive charge wire and field wiring tiny hold down nuts are not loose for some reason-and your alternator belt tensioner is not stuck in a loose belt position-you probably just need a replacement alternator

I have a code 41 on my 93 grand chorkee 5.2 4x4
Fault Code 41

Description: Alternator field control circuit open or shorted
Power loss light: Off
Limp-in mode: None

Possible Causes
* Bad connection or wiring - Check the wiring and connections between the logic module and the power module. Clean and regrease any corroded connectors with dielectric grease and repair any shorts.

* Bad voltage regulator circuit - See Diagnosing Your Charging System

Diagnostic Method:
* Trigger Parameters
- Near 0V or near 12V not detected when the field coil driver is turned on or off, respectively

* Results If Component Fails
Fault code 41 is stored. If the condition persists, it will eventually result in a fault code 46 or 47.

1993 dodge stealth trouble code 14 & 41, car does not start
Code 14 is a faulty MAP sensor , and 41 is alternator field control circuit open or shorted. I'd start with checking and cleaning the connector at MAP sensor, and check all connection at alternator as well as battery. You'll need to replace MAP sensor and have alternator tested if cleaning doesn't cure it.

After changing alternator and voltage regulator. Still not charging. 2nd $15.00 regulator replacment
Check your battery and check the ground wire from battery. Make sure all your wires are clean and good connections. A bad battery will not charge and a dead battery will not charge a alternator maintains a battery not charge a battery, so charge your battery completely before checking that the alternator is working. Check all the wires going to the starter for good tight and clean connections . Hope this helps...

Alernator/charging light coming on dimmly / intermittentley
may i suggest you test the charge to battery using volt meter should be around 14 volts if alt is working ok also check the wires and connections to alternator are clean and secure? if alternator is faulty it is reasonably eay diy to change and you can obtain yourself from motor store if you have local tyre/battery depot near you pop along and have them check alt output/condition if you have no v/meter? they normally do not charge here in uk for quick check if they are not busy hope this helps

I have a 1990 Dodge Ram B250 conversion van the problem is the check engine light is on ran computer code to find out the problem. the engine is a 318 have a problem with the charging system have replaced...
the numbers are 12, 41, 55
12- direct batttery inut to controller disconnected within last 50 ingnition key-on cycles
41- alternator field circuit- an open or shrted condition detected in the alternator control circuit.
55- final code - indicates the end of the scan codes

I've replaced the alternator and checked all the wiring still can't find the solution. I've posted to find out if the alternator control circuit can be repaired.

Dash lights
HI..
Normally when those lights come on .
Is why the alernator is no charging or is charging to much.
Or you have problem with wires.
Check the wires and all connection from the battery to the alternator..
