Chances are the electronic/digital HVAC control unit is bad. This same problem happened to me and I had to replace the entire unit. The dealer wanted to charge $800 for just the part! After I freaked out on them, they found a used one for less than half. Sorry, but there's no easy fix here.

You probably have a vacuum leak on the passenger side. its a small plastic hose some times they come unpluged from the engine. or brake.

Sounds like you have a supply vacuum problem. When you lose supply vacuum to the control head it defaults to defrost.

You have a vacuum leak. Defrost is the default postion(no Vacuum). Start by finding the small black vacuum line near the heater hoses at the fire wall under the hood.Trace it back, it should go to a square black reservoir . Not totally sure exactly where it is located on this model, shop manual doesn't show a very good pic, but it states to remove wiper arm and pivot shaft to remove it. You will see a second line going from here to intake manifold vacuum port. Make sure you don't have a leak there somewhere.

there is a good chance that you blend air door is stuck closed over your heater core and therefore not allowing the heat to flow, also your door that opens and close your direction of flow from the floor ,das, vent and defrost.your going to have to remove the lower cowling of the dash on the passenger side analso some of the center dash to actually check to see if the cable, servo motors. are acuating the doors.the issue could be just a stuck door or a misaligned cable or that it came off. that falls under the mechanical side of probabilities. electrical would most likely be a faulty selector switch or a servo motor
