I need a new rear end for my RWD 1990 D150 pickup. Rear ends for these can be rare, and therefore expensive. I was told that, because the truck is RWD, I could use a ford or chevy rear end. Is this true? If so, how much more complicated is it than using a dodge rear end?
I would stick to using a Dodge rear end as there may be sensors and other connecting items that may not be the same between major brands.....Someone at the salvage yard should be able to tell you what years would interchange with the 1990 you have. I would change out the whole rear end as it is relatively easy once you get the leaf spring hanger bolts undone.

Hello, well you can look at it in a few different ways. Like you stated you can get a rear end from a salvage yard and not know what you are getting, you can spend some big bucks to get a new rear end, or you can get it rebuilt. I feel getting it rebuilt will be the better option. If you get it rebuilt you will have new parts in the rear end and know what you have verses the cost of a new rear end. This of course depends on how much damage there is in the rearend. Economically I feel that having it rebuilt is the best option. I always get nervouse when putting in any used part because you don't know what you are getting. If you do get it rebuilt make sure they put in new bearings which any reputible shop should anyways.
SOURCE: 1990 DODGE D150 WON'T START WHEN HOT
There is a temp. sensor on the exhaust manifold that I just switched out on car that done the same thing it would start when cold but once it was hot and you killed the car it would not start back. When this goes bad its throwing the wrong signal to the computer that it is too hot and allowing it not to crank. This sensor was on the left side of the engine if your facing the car from the front. Also It can be tested with a multimeter to see if it is bad.
SOURCE: Where is the fuel filter located on my 1991 Dodge
The fuel filter is not IN the fuel tank. The Fuel PUMP is IN the fuel tank. The Filter is mounted to the underneath of the truck bed NEXT to the Fuel tank. Its alittle smaller than a soda can with two fuel hoses connected to it.

Usually answered in minutes!
Only 2 companies build diff's for these, but the mounting is different and they have different gear ratio's for diff lines of trucks, so the answer is no based on the meager info u supplied about the type and design of your particular unit.
