MY 97 yukon has Rough idle, loud knocking at high torque, and oil pressure goes from 40psi to 0psi. what do you think is the problem?

My 97 yukon has rough idle while in park, the engine makes loud knocking while in idle or at high rpm's, and sometimes my oil pressure drops to zero psi but i checked the oil and the oil level is normal.

Checking oil level won't tell you anything

You need to put a mechanical gauge on
the motor, you can't go by the dash for accuracy

You could have many things that need to be
done preventative maintenance wise before
you even start to diagnose the couple of current
issues

Dash Check Lights?
Codes?
Driven for two years & never worked on?

We can't guess, you need a repair shop to
give you the solution

SOURCE: 1997 Eagle Talon TSI AWD oil pressure goes from zero to normal and back

Te 1st thing to do is replace the oil pressure guage sending unit, most times that is the problem, if press remains low use a mechanical test guage to verify what the oil pressure is, hook this tester up at the port the sending unit is screwed into.

SOURCE: 97 wrangler oil pressure drops when engine is at idle

check the engine oil level... you could possibly need to replace the oil pump soon... if you do not live in a cold climate i would consider using 30 or 50 weight oil. do NOT use that in a cold climate as the oil is like molasses when it gets cold.
that's only temporary. one other thing to consider is a clogged oil filter... when was the last time it was changed ?

SOURCE: 2002 gmc yukon, rich fuel code, low fuel pressure @40

you may have two oxugen sensors on your yukon. if so the oxygen sensor that controls that bank may be bad. from what you mentioned in your complaint, it sounds like it is the oxygen sensor.

What should the cold start oil psi and the 190 degree warm up oil psi be on a 2000 to 2002 gmc Yukon with a 5.3 eng

Different engines can show different values. Sometimes it is the sensor itself that causes the variation. The pressures that you are witnessing are well within operation norms and are nothing to be worried about. As long as you don't experience severe drops in oil pressure during acceleration and deceleration, then the oil pressure system is working well.

2002 4.8l gmc yukon oil pressure problem

My suggestion would be to check it with a mechanical gauge.
You would need to use a Tee fitting to use the sensor to have fuel pressure.
If the mechanical gauge shows steady pressure at idle, it could be a problem in the wiring or the instrument cluster.

97 ford thunderbird 3.8 v6 has a very loud knock. any ideas?

First of all, stop driving it. Second of all, it may be that your oil pump may be going out, however unless you are a mechanic, I wouldn't go any further.

Oil gauge on a 2003 gmc sierra is reading beyond 80, its all the way down. could it be serious? Just had oil change last week.

I'm assuming that this reading is at idle? The range for oil pressure is more like 30-40PSI at idle and 10-20 more at speed. The reasons your pressure is reading too high could be:

--The gauge or the sensor itself is bad (not uncommon)
--The mechanic used the wrong oil viscosity when changing your oil, and the thicker oil than specifications call for is causing higher pressures.
--The mechanic accidentally knocked off the wire to the oil sensor when changing the oil
--A bypass valve in the pump or filter is clogged and causing the high pressure.

This is a relatively new car and if this problem developed immediately after the oil change I'd suspect the wrong oil was used or the wire to the sensor was knocked off. If the problem developed near the oil change, but not right after, I'd suspect it was coincidence and that there is a problem with the gauge. Go back to your mechanic.

How to repalce a knock sensor on my 2004 gmc yukon

Hi welcom to fixya. A defective knock sensor may cause engine detonation or reduced spark advance and fuel economy. When a knock sensor is removed and replaced, the sensor must be tightened to its specified torque. If the knock sensor is installed tighter than it should be, it may become too sensitive and provide an excessively high voltage signal, resulting in more spark ****** than required. When the knock sensor is installed looser than it should be, the knock sensor signal will be lower than normal, resulting in engine detonation.
To replace the knock sensor:
  • Disconnect the knock sensor wiring connector.
  • Then, unscrew the sensor.
  • Remove the knock sensor.
  • Reverse the procedures to install the part.
  • 15 ft.lbs.torque
  • hope this helps.Thank You for using fixya..iluv2fish.. Ray..

Oil pump goes bad what are the symptoms? I was driving and heard a loud noise now my truck is running rough and sluggish and there is no oil pressure at the gauge. There's a loud knocking under the...

It sounds like you have slipped a bearing and you'll need a new engine. You get most of your oil pressure from your connecting rod bearing and crank shaft bearing, you still have some oil pressure. No oil pressure will cause your engines ECM to shut the engine down, but from what you have described. The engine is to far gone for repairs and a engine swap would be the more economical thing to do.
Thank you for using fixya and sorry for the bad news.

I have a knocking noise at idle in my 97 Chevy Lumina...It goes away when I accelerate. What could this be?

after oil change' check oil pressure cold and then hot , then idle, if it goes up when reving it hot, thats good sort of,then if it goes way to low at idle and knocks, check idle speed. Fix it if so, still there , in the old days we would be cheap and put in a high flow oil pump, now I drive the "siht" out of a cheap car to see how long they last! It will supruse you> seen a 97 lumina with 400,000 km. slight knock and still going.

Oil pressure drops once it gets warm

Sorry to say it sounds like the motor is gone. Higher oil pressure when the oil is cold is normal. But, when the engine gets to operating temp and the pressure bottoms out and the engine knocks you have big problems. If the mileage is very high (150,000) or more your bearings are so worn that the oil can't fill the void between the surfaces and thus the low oil pressure.
