There is a tag on the cover of the diff. It will say the type and axle ratio. If the diff. cover looks sort of like a stop sign, then it's a dana 44 rear. A oval shape(an oval on it's side) is a dana 35.

Where do I install the rear-end oil on a Dodge Ram 1500

I supose you are talking about the rear axle? if so, unscrew the bolts of the rear axle's cover and let the oil flow out into a container. once it's empty, clean the cover and the surface on the axle where the cover goes on to, apply a seal onto the cover and put the cover back on and screw al of the bolts back into place and tighten them. you will find a rubber plug in the cover, take it out and fill the rear axle untill the liquid comes out of the plughole. Put the rubber plug in and you're done! Watch out if you got al limited slip differential, you will need to put an additive into the oil so you won't burn the clutches of you limited slip differential.

I have a leak from my rear axle seal. How do you

JACK up the truck and block other rear wheel both back and take hand brake off ,,remove rear wheel/brake drum/handbrake cable from rear brake/remove metal brake hose/remove rearbacking plate with all parts fitted to it ie brakeshous 4or5 bolts holding the rear axle in to housing and when all parts off then put on a IMPACK PULLER and remove complete backing plate with axle assy and take to the engineering shop to get it pressed off and a new bearing and seal assy pressed back on .
Then refit in reverse of removal and bleed the brakes and top up the rear axle of oil (EP90) apply h/brake take out blocks and lower jack and test drive .. BUT MAKE SURE THE BRAKES ARE 100%

Rear axle bearing lock washer and nut coming loose

You may have incorrect axle end play. The left axle is fitted with a 1mm shim and an o-ring between the bearing housing and diff flange. The right bearing housing should be shimmed to suit specs. If the right axle has too much end play, it may try to walk.

    • 18 — 3.08.
    • 19 — 3.55.
    • 26 — 3.73.
    • 27 — 3.31.
    • H9 — 3.55 Limited slip.
    • B6 — 3.73 Limited Slip.
  • Front axle (B) code.

Trying to identify rear differential on 87 ford ranger 7.5 or 8.0 need to replace since teeth from gears were in case.

You most likely have the 7.5, as that was the stock rear axle on older rangers.
There should be a tag on the differential cover bolt that has the gear ratio and differential size on it.
