Engine was running fine but then next day turned key and all i got was a humming sound. I found that the distributor cap center contact was burned and not protruding and the rotor contact was also burned and broken. I replaced the rotor and replaced the distributor cap with a used spare. When I turn the key it hums but does not start. Could it be the coil or the starter?
Sounds like a Starter remove it and test it on the battery keep a tight hold as it turns quit sharpley if it works its possible it could bevthe cylanoid replacevthe full starter its just as cheap mine was 90 pound originall merc part

If your engine is turning over, but not starting, then the alarm is not the issue. The alarm will keep the vehicle from ever cranking to begin with. I don't believe that jeep used any type of immobilizer system back in 1995, so that should rule that out of the equation. You sound like you have some mechanical aptitude, and at least you know that it's missing spark, and where it's missing it at. Your next step would be to find a wiring diagram of your vehicle, and sorta trace the current flow backwards and find out exactly you're losing it at. Chances are it's something stupid simple, but you're just gonna have to do a little current tracing and check each connector, relay, fuse, etc along the way with anything involved in that circuit.

The rotor is somehow making direct contact with one or more distributor contacts.
Check the contacts inthe cap to see if you find any physical damage to one or more contacts caused by the rotor.
Could be rotor lead too long (file it down) or maybe the distributor shaft is bent or not seated. Remove cap and observe the distributor shaft as someone cranks the engine. Does it wobble? Can't tell? Place a stiff reference parallel to the shaft and turn engine again.

CHECK ASD RELAY THAT IS AUTOMATIC SHUTDOWN RELAY IN THE POWER DISTRIBUTION CENTER UNDER THE HOOD IN ENGINE COMPARTMENT.IF ASD RELAY GOOD PROBLEM COULD BE CAMSHAFT SENSOR IN THE DISTRIBUTOR.TO SAVE TIME AND MONEY HAVE JEEP SCANNED FOR CAMSHAFT SENSOR AND CRANKSHAFT SENSOR FAULTS.
