First of all a scan tool is need for this not a code reader, you need to view scan data after you find what code is stored in the PCM. It could have a problem with the powertrain control module, wiring, or the Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) Sensors. Here are a few codes that could set .
DTC P2120: Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) Sensor 1 Circuit

DTC P2122: Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) Sensor 1 Circuit Low Voltage

DTC P2123: Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) Sensor 1 Circuit High Voltage

DTC P2125: Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) Sensor 2 Circuit

DTC P2127: Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) Sensor 2 Circuit Low Voltage

DTC P2128: Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) Sensor 2 Circuit High Voltage

DTC P2138: Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) Sensor 1-2 Correlation

First use OBD reader to detect the exact trouble code.
Generally the reduced engine power is due to brake booster sensor just locate brake booster and you will find 2 cables connected to a small black box that goes inside the brake booster its inserted there with O ring you need to pull it out and clean the sensor with electronic cleaner and because this happens due to dirt in brake oil you must flush and change the brake oil.

Yes you need to have a scan tool to diagnois this problem, I'm a Chevy tech.this kind of problem is not for the diy'er. I found that most of the time it is the DTC P2138: Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) Sensor 1-2 Correlation

This guy with comment about rake booster does no have a clue.

Jeff I have Chevrolet Tahoe 2008 model which i bought brand new and I\'m still using it till date and I\'m getting all my service done from the dealer. when in my dashboard i was notified as engine power reduced about 1 year back then the dealer changed my vehicles brake booster for which i paid around USD 750 when I diagnosed the old part myself I found out that it was just dirty and sensor notifies that to vehicles ecu so based on the best of my understanding i commented above. And anyway I\'m not asking anyone to bomb their vehicle and it is easy and safe to clean it anyway! And if this is not the reason for this then its dealers are the one who don\'t have a clue which is pretty normal and this is how they earn thrice the price of a car. And yes if it is accelerator pedal position then the vehicle needs throttle cleaning. This is why I asked the person to diagnose by using OBD 2 reader first to understand the problem.

I'm a gm tech. there s several things that can cause power limited. most likely the throttle body or accelerator pedal. in rare cases you can have a wiring issue. to this day I have never seen a brake booster or the sensor cause power limited. cleaning your throttle body will only postpone replacement it does not fix the issue if this is what's causing it. I recommend scan the vehicle and find out what codes are there. if they are tps 1-2 correlation codes replace the throttle body. If its app 1-2 correlation codes replace the pedal. if there is any circuit high or low/open codes u may be looking at a wiring issue. I deal with these every day just my 2 cents.

SOURCE: WHat does it mean when your traction control

Hello Jeremy.
When your traction light comes on it is indicating wheel spin on acceleration. To prevent wheel spin an onboard computer reduces engine power to limit the wheel spin. Some, if not most, cars equipped with this feature will also apply the brakes if wheel spin continues after reducing engine power.
Hope this answers your question.
Thank you for using Fixya!

SOURCE: Service Stabilitrak-Reduced Engine Power

the engine light is a generic fault indicator in your car to point out something is not quite right with the engine, having a loss of power as well is also known in some areas as Limp Mode or Safety Mode. it means the car is restricting the power it gives to ensure no damage it done to the engine.

the only certain way to find out what is wrong is to take it to a garage that has diagnostics equipment that can read the fault codes from the vechicles ECU (the fault codes will be the reason the light on the dash has come on as its reporting a fault somewhere)..

your mechanic should be able to tell you what is wrong with the engine from that and give you a more accurate cost at fixing it.

2012 Buick Enclave, dash reads Traction control off, service stabilitrak. Engine power reduced... why????

Engine power reduced... is the main problem ,this turned off Traction control off, service stabilitrak. Your vehicle has electronic throttle control , The Gas pedal has sensors inside which are connected by electrical circuits to the PCM - engine computer ,the PCM use's these inputs to control the throttle plate by use of a 12 volt DC motor . Plus there are position sensors on the throttle body for feed back to the PCM. When one of these signals is off The PCM will put the system into reduced power mode . This will also set DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes . Your best bet , take it to a qualified repair shop.

I keep getting a message service stabilitrak

StabiliTrak Indicator Light: If the warning light does not come on then, have it fixed so it will be ready to warn you if there is a problem. If it stays on, or comes on when you are driving, there may be a problem with your StabiliTrak system and your vehicle may need service. When this warning light is on, the system is off and will not limit wheel spin. Adjust your driving accordingly.

This light will also flash when the StabiliTrak system is active. If the StabiliTrak system warning light comes on and stays on for an extended period of time when the system is turned on, your vehicle needs service.

The traction control part of StabiliTrak can be turned off by pressing and releasing the StabiliTrak button if both systems (traction control and StabiliTrak) were previously on. To disable both traction control and StabiliTrak, press and hold the button for five seconds.

Traction control and StabiliTrak can be turned on by pressing and releasing the StabiliTrak button if not automatically shut off for any other reason.

When the TCS or StabiliTrak system is turned off, the StabiliTrak light and the appropriate TCS off or StabiliTrak off message will be displayed on the DIC to warn the driver. Your vehicle will still have brake-traction control when traction control is off, but will not be able to use the engine speed management system.

If the StabiliTrak and/or Traction Control are not operating properly, I encourage you to take your vehicle in for inspection. A certified technician will be able to offer a more accurate diagnosis.

2010 chevy 1/2 pick-up 4x4 Check engine light comes on, engine power reduced, and service stabilitrak, traction control off.

Since all three systems work together, when the engine light is on the other two can be also.
I would start with checking the engine computer for trouble codes.

2007 chevy avalanche, leaves me stranded or limping home about every 6 months, first code says, traction control off, next code says ,service stabilitrak and the last code says...engine power reduced.its been...

These are not codes , they are warning lights , telling you the driver that a problem exist . code says, traction control off, next code says ,service stabilitrak and the last code says...engine power reduced. DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes could be stored in the control modules that control these system's . The main problem is more then likely with the reduced engine power. This is because of a problem with the electronic throttle control system . This problem will turn off these other thing's , turning on their light's .
Throttle Actuator Control (TAC) System Description
All newer vehicles have this ! There are position sensors in the Gas pedal and on the throttle body on the engine , The computer uses a DC volt electric motor to make the vehicle go . The sensors wear over time , the motor can wear , wiring can break etc...
Reduced Engine Power Mode
When the ECM detects a condition with the TAC system, the ECM may enter a reduced engine power mode. Reduced engine power may cause one or more of the following conditions:
• Acceleration limiting--The ECM will continue to use the accelerator pedal for throttle control; however, the vehicle acceleration is limited.
• Limited throttle mode--The ECM will continue to use the accelerator pedal for throttle control; however, the maximum throttle opening is limited.
• Throttle default mode--The ECM will turn off the throttle actuator motor and the throttle will return to the spring loaded default position.
• Forced idle mode--The ECM will perform the following actions:
- Limit engine speed to idle by positioning the throttle position, or by controlling the fuel and spark if the throttle is turned off.
- Ignore the accelerator pedal input.
• Engine shutdown mode--The ECM will disable fuel and de-energize the throttle actuator.

I have a wrench with a car swerving light up every once in awhile but I have no idea what it means and I have no idea what stabilitrak is

{: ) A car swerving light on the instrument cluster is the StabiTrak indicator, sometimes called the traction control indicator. A wrench beside it tells it requires servicing.

Your vehicle is equipped with StabiliTrak, which combines antilock brake, traction and stability control systems and helps the driver maintain directional control of the vehicle in most driving conditions.
Traction control activates when the controller senses wheel spin. StabiliTrak will selectively apply the brakes and reduce engine torque to help regain traction.
Stability control activates when the controller senses a discrepancy between your intended path and the direction the vehicle is travelling. StabiliTrak selectively applies braking pressure at any one of the vehicle's brakes to help guide the vehicle in the direction which you are steering.
When you first start your vehicle and begin to drive away, the system performs several diagnostic checks to insure there are no problems. You may hear or feel the system working. This is normal and does not mean there is a problem with your vehicle. If driving conditions delay system initialization, the STABILITRAK NOT READY message may be displayed. If this is the case, your vehicle does not need servicing.
When the StabiliTrak system is both on and actively controlling the stability of the vehicle, the StabiliTrak light will blink for the duration of the event.
You may also feel or hear the system working. This is normal.
StabiliTrak will turn off automatically if a problem is detected in the system. The StabiliTrak light will come on and SERVICE STABILITRAK will be displayed on the DIC. For vehicles without a DIC, the StabiliTrak light and the StabiliTrak service light will both come on. If the SERVICE STABILITRAK message (or StabiliTrak service light) does not clear itself after restarting the vehicle, you should see your dealer for service.
