SOURCE: 99 deville head gasket leak?

A head gasket leak is usually indicated (among other things) by continous overheating of the motor, and subsequent loss of coolant.
It can also be indicated by the presence of engine combustion gas bubbles in the coolant resevoir.
Ensure the coolant system has no external leaks, such as faulty hose/s, radiator etc.

Ensure motor tune or other motor mechanical condition is not the cause of overheating.
I assume the motor is actually running hot.

Check cooling fans are operating ok (as necessary when car warms up):- if not check
1) fuse,
2) relay operation,
3) heat sensor switch.

Check/replace the thermostat,
Check the coolant pressure cap is serviceable & of correct rating,
Ensure cooling system is correctly filled, bleed off any airlocks as necessary when re-filling,
Ensure radiator hose on suction side of waterpump is not collapsing at engine revs above idle (due softening),
If the motor has been severely overheated, the head gasket could be blown - look for combustion gas bubbles in the coolant resevoir.

1998 CADILLACE 4 DOOR SEDAN DEVILLE IS OVER HEATING TEMP GOES UP TO 230 REPLACED THERMOSTAT

  • Add a mixture of one-half water and one-half antifreeze to the radiator. Fill it right up to the top.

  • 2

Fill the overflow/coolant reservoir with the same 50/50 mixture.

  • 3

Leave the radiator cap off, turn the engine on and let it run until the radiator "burps": You will see the coolant level drop and may see or hear a large air bubble come to the top as the system burps.

  • 4

Keep an eye on the temperature gauge throughout this process.

  • 5

Refill the radiator to the top and coolant reservoir as needed.

  • 6

Put the radiator cap back on.

  • You might have some air inside coolant system, try follow the steps that i just created. if its not work out please relay me back thanks

    Check coolant temp

I just purchased a 98 Cadillac Deville which had sat at the dealers for a few months, when I drove it the check coolant light came on, I checked with the dealer and he added coolant and it went off,I'm going to keep an eye on it but as the devilles seem to have head gasket problems and that might be the first sign of a bigger issue. Hope this helps and remember to add ONLY Dexcool antifreeze as it is what is required and most auto parts stores carry this

Low coolant light stays on. added coolant and is still on.

Did you add the fluid to the Radiator or the Overflow container. The radiator should be full and the overflow container should have a mark on it for full. Make sure both are full. If they are then you most likely have a bad sensor that you will need to locate and replace.

well check your coolant level first, if its low add some coolant. if that does not help i would assume your thermostat has went out and needs to be replaced

1998 cadillac deville looses about 1/2 collant every two to three weeks no coolant in the oil or on the ground

Check for possible leak. Also check the radiator cap. Inspect the rubber seal for signs of deterioration. Look for signs where coolant had been escaping which would have coolant stains on them.

    Coolant level warning

Means you need to add coolant to either the radiater or the overflow tank on your vehicle. If the engine is hot add to the overflow tank while engine is running in case it is low so it draws it into the engine. DO NOT open the radiator when it is hot as you could get burned by hot steam. If cool, take off the radiator cap and poor into radiator, then run for a while and then recheck the overflow tank to see it is between the MIN and MAX lines on the tank.
