You likely have a failed transmission, have a shop confirm this.

SOURCE: check engine light on 1997 Honda accord EX

Hi

If the engine is running without any problems then The fault code which has flagged the checked engine light will either pertain to the upstream O2 sensor, a drop in catalytic efficiency, an EGR issue, or maybe even an EVAP issue.

A lot of EVAP issues can be resolved by simply ensuring that the fuel filler cap is on securely, otherwise a vacuum leak will be detected in the system and the check engine light will come on.

A drop in catalytic efficiency (P0420) is usually temporary and will stay away after a reset.

EGR issues can sometimes be rectified by removing the EGR valve and cleaning it, and the ports on the intake where it was sat, but there are occasions when it has to be renewed.

The O2 sensor issues are a wee bit different. There are a number of fault codes which relate to the O2 sensor, and which make the O2 sensor look faulty, when the O2 sensor is actually attempting to rectify a problem from elsewhere and isn't faulty at all. However, they could also be due to a fault with the O2 sensor. Basically, further checks should be made before condemning the O2 sensor should the fault code relate to the sensor.

Have a code read done and then have the codes reset and see what comes up.

Regards

Geordie

Horsecrap...go to an independent transmission dealer after you call the extended warranty folks and complain!
I can count the number of Honda transmissions that go bad before 300,000 miles on one hand.
Good Luck

SOURCE: 95 honda accord dx with 2.2 non vtec won't stay

Hello
You say you checked the ignition switch, you are 100% sure that isn't the problem? this year and indeed most 1990's Honda"s has a problem with the electrical contacts in the ignition starter switch, the symptom is the car will run until the key is released to the run position or the engine just stalls for no reason, the switch is very easy to replace and I bet is your problem, just remove the sterring column covers, they are a **** shell cover the screws are recessed on the bottom of the cover, Honda doesn't sell the switch seperately from the key cylinder buy it is sold in the after market, here is a price and picture of the part.

STANDARD MOTOR PRODUCTS Part # US288 {IGNITION STARTER SWITCH} $31.79 US

SOURCE: I have a 1999 honda Accord EX. The engine check

  • If you can please list the code that was read and also the symptoms for me I may be able to give more specifics on the code itself. As for a misfire in any cylinder I will lists some things that are indicative of this.

  1. Spark Bad fuel injector
  2. plug
  3. Plug wire
  4. Coil
  5. bad 02 sensor
  6. bad computer.
  7. out of gas
  8. bad catalytic computer
  9. burned exhaust valve
  10. poor compression.

  • Symptoms can be a hard to start engine.
  • Hesitation or bucking when accelerating.

  • A rotten egg smell from the exhaust can indicate a bad Catalytic Converter.
  • If it has been a long time since a tune up then plugs and wires may be in order.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa.

Regards, Tony

2000 Honda Accord 2.3 VTec engine, 4 cylinder, 5 speed stuck in reverse?

USA spec car in USA? not told
2.3L inline 4 banger.DOHC +VVT cam. 5sp, M/T
nor real name of the box told.
Vtec is honda name for VVT, valve variable timing, and is not a transmission part at all so is off topic if we want to do 1 at a time.
a wise idea that, leaks are your problem.as all are.
your post seem clueless, here, find a real shop and get it fixed?
vtech bad causes huge engine power loss, for sure stuck in idle mode. so lets end that here.
and talk the box, what box 5 speed is it
not told at all
honda says 5speed is a manual transmission M/T
the silly cable to it is bad.
end story, endless.
2 cables clutch release snapped i gear. makes it hard to shift if you do not move car bay hand to N./ (a trick to lean 2 man job) as all tow truck drivers know for 100 years.
shift cable bad. (or levers to it)
see this first photo , one can drop off links to that #8 part and shift the box by hand, sure can and if can the box end is good .
box means transmission box in whole.,, mech jargon.
all this is pure mechanics 101 problem shifting any M/T is.
photo 2 is lever #2 id and cable set 6
one if bad, looking only finds it as is 100% pure mechanical parts.
end to end. no brains no CPU or TCM brains here, just real gears and levers and flex steel cables that love to fail not lubed regular.

Well one easy answer for you. The VTEC enige is unbreakable and will rev higher than you think. When the VTEC kicks in you will get a bit more noise as the enige sucks more air but believe me as long as you keep ontop maintenance wise it will be the best buy.
