I have a 1988 ford f350 cranks but won't start

The vehicle ran fine all morning but when i went to start it all it did was crank. i did not hear the fuel pump running so i shot some starting fluid in the motor and it fired up and ran for a little so that lead me to believe it was a fuel issue so i replaced the fuel pump relay and the pump would run at key on. it still cranks but does not start. that being said i have good pressure to the fuel rail. so i'm thinking that the injectors are not firing but i do not know what fires the injectors. does it get power from the starter solonoid? i have no clue what to do next

Move over there's a fat guy here to help you now you must go to fordowners.com register for free then search for your owners manual you can download it for free then go to roadside emergencies and look for your fuse box diagram there will be the fuse location for the fuel injection and there's a relay for them to I believe

SOURCE: 1992 ford ranger 3.0

i was once pulling a trailer with a ranger when it suddenly lost power and the engine died. turns out the problem was with the fuel shut off inertia switch. the switch is supposed to activate in case of accident. on my model the inertia switch is located in the passenger side under the glove box. dont know where yours is located. once you find it, just push the button and see if it resets. good luck.

SOURCE: Fuel Problem

fuel pressure regulator? This diverts excess pressure from the rail back to the tank. When they wear out they usually stay stuck open thus diverting all pressure back to the tank. Pressure tests do not reveal this as pressure is checked before the rail not in it. I do believe you have a bad fuel regulator. They are 75US ouch.

SOURCE: Ignition doesn't work

Check the fusible link that feeds the starter solinoid, the remote starter by passes it.

SOURCE: 1988 ranger 2.9 no fuel pressure new pump

check the pulse on the injector wire with a noid lite or a meter. If no flash then you most likely need a computer. Its called a quad driver in the PCM thats fried. You may have a shorted component that caused it to fail.

Since you say it will run if you add fuel manually I don't suspect the crank sensor because you have spark.

1988 Ford F350 460,fuel injected, Wont start,,, Coil only sends spark once per revolution of the rotor

Hello Donn,

UN-fortunately 1988 is WELL before the OBD
(on board diagnostic)... DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE
Codes (DTC) got standardized...

So DAYS can be wasted looking for commonality...
(troubles).

Rather than assuming your spark, timing, fuel, ECU...
Oxygen Sensors. INJECTORS are all askew...

I would suggest that if you SATURATED YOUR
HEADER BOLTS with LIQUID WRENCH...

and opened you EXHAUST ahead of your catalytic
converters... ahead of your mufflers... you engine would run...

Obviously DANGEROUS to operate in that condition... at
least you would know what had to be REPLACED before
you can operate your vehicle SAFELY.

If you decide the job is a bit too much... at least
check out your PURCHASE cost of a replacement
CAT and/or MUFFLER...

2002 Ford Explorer ran out of gas put gas in and won't restart. replaced fuel pump and fuel filter still won't start. Cranks but won't start

Most Fords have a fuel reset button. When you ran out of gas you tripped the circuit. Most of the time the button will be on the passenger side by the kick panel. The exact location should be in your owners manual or your local library or auto parts store will have a copy of one for your specific vehicle.

I have a 1996 F350 7.3l deisel crewcab that ran fine. I parked it and then a week later I went to start it and it only just turned over with no starting

If the vehicle doesnt start you will need to know what the ICP shows(this has a high failure rate) Disconnect the ICP this will default the PCM to failure mode management, this is a alternate strategy the location of this sensor front of the engine threaded in the left cylinder head by the way dont use either use WD40 or any similar lubricant.Make sure the fuel pump is working its under the vehicle right below the driver seat area have someone crank it and feel for it coming on

91 5.0 LX, ran fine yesterday but hesitated when pulling into the garage. Next morning it would crank over rapidly but won't fire. dosen't seem to be getting spark. Any ideas? Thank You.

I would check the timing belt. If it is hard to access, then pull the distributor cap or valve cover. If nothing moves as you crank it. Your belt broke.

sounds like you have a faulty ignition switch or a burnt fusible link(located on the right fender next to the battery).
