My h3 sometimes does't want to start, Disconnect battery and hook right back and then it starts, next, open passengers door and the interior lights didn't go on, went drivers side they went on, tried to start would not start, disconnect battery, hooked back up and it started, then it read on dashboard, door open, all doors were closed... must be a bad switch??
My H3 didn't start this morning. I noticed something unusual about my truck when I first tried. The alarm had a weak sound when it went off. The fact that it turned over but didn't start made me believe it was not the battery. I was trying to call the mechanic and a wrecker to get my H3 fixed. However, before that I got the wrecker out there, I went to Autozone. He told me it sounded like the battery and cold weather kills the battery. So 3 hours have passed and temperatures warmed up to a cool 56 degrees. I was going to put jumper cables but out of curiousity, I said well let me crank it and see if it was cold weather. Sure enough, it cranked right up.
Either way, I am going to take it to Autozone and have the battery checked. I can't miss another day of work due to an old battery.
Well here is some more input for you. I went and bought the new battery. I put it in.... and piece of S@#t wouldn't start. I tried for about 5 minutes.
Guess what, I went inside and was looking for the dealership to cuss them out,,,,,
I went back outside about 10 minutes later and it started?????????
The true test is if it cranks tomorrow morning.
by the way my is parked on a 60 degree incline.... hmmmm maybe some there?
Hey its me again. I kept on searching and look at what this guy explained. Your 60 degree garage and my 60 degree driveway may be the problem if the seats move.... interested:

ok, this happened to me twice now.. i'll start
from the beginning. A month ago my wife and I decided to go to vegas
because gas has gotten so cheap. So we load up the kids, luggage get in
and our h3 won't start..
first time this ever happened. We then took everything out and loaded
it all in my truck still determined to go since we had hotel
reservations paid for. As we were sitting in the front seat, I went
over what I did different before the starting problem started.
I told my wife I moved the passenger seat all the way forward and put
my 4 year old in his big boy seat so my wife could tend to our infant
in the back for the drive to vegas..well I got out of the truck, went
back in the garage, opened the passenger door, moved the seat back a
few inches, put the key in the ignition and bamm.. "it started"
so then we loaded everything back in the hummer and off we went..Later
I talked to my step father, who is a real grease monkey from the
sixties and explained what had happened and he knew right away.. He
said my GM product was in "crash mode" due to me moving my seat all the
way forward. It thinking I was in a wreck, disabled the engine from starting
or in the case of a wreck it would shut down the motor, gas pump and so
on.. which leads me to tonight.. earlier I went to the store and again
moved the passenger seat forward but this time, not even close to all
the way foward. went to the store, came back home and went out to
dinner later. lLaving the restaurant we got in and the unthinkable
happened again.. It wouldnt start.
just cranking and cranking. so I got out moved the passenger seat
up,down, back, and forth, reached under the seat and jiggled the wires
around."electric seats" reached over and turned the key and It started...and by the way when it would'nt start
the first time it happened I would let go the key and for about 3
seconds it would keep cranking.. GM seams to be like ford."They have a
better idea"

My 2006 H3 60k miler is doing the same thing. Started about a year ago and has become more frequent over time (and maybe miles). Like others, I have tried to diagnois the problem and have found only one common denominator - do nothing but wait 20 minutes and the vehicle will start as normal. I checked with another local owner and his 2006 H3 is doing likewise - only difference is that he has less miles and less frequent start failues. My internet search has turned up phantom causes of sticking valves, ignition switch and seat movement. Sure hope to find the cause as I truely love the H3.
I have a 2006 H3...it has about 68K miles. I have the same problem. It started May of '09 and has been an annoyance ever since. I have taken it to several mechanics and none of them will hook it up to their diagnostic machine because my engine light isn't on....they say it won't throw a code if the light isn't on. I have to wait EXACTLY 10 minutes to the second and it starts up just fine. It just randomly does this. The Hummer dealership said it could be a pass lock sensor. I love my car and really wish I could solve this mystery!

My 2009 H3 is sitting in a 60 degree garage, its something electrical, dealer said could be ignition assembly, but they want to keep the vehicle and drive around for a couple of days to see if it does it for them.... yeah right! Thanks for your imput....
I read your seat comment and I never moved the seats..... took the door switches out of the jams last nite and found the rear gate switch was full of water........... I don't know..............
Do either of you have a remote start? I am having the same issue with my wife's H3. We have a remote start but did not think about it until we called the dealer and they said that they think it is that and are about 95% sure of it. Any ideas. We have never moved the passenger sent either time it happened.
This happened to me for the first time today. I have a 2007 H3 that I have had for 5 years now. I called 3 dealerships that were formerly Hummer dealerships to find out if they had a suggestion. The engine cranks but it wouldn't turn over. Two of the service reps told me it was probably the fuel pump and that I would need to have it towed to the dealership. I kept trying to start the car in between calls and it wouldn't start. Afterr about 40 minutes I gave up and called a tow truck. While waiting I decided to give it one more try and bam! It started! I cancelled the tow truck but planned to take it straight tothe dealership. When I arrived I was glad to see a familiar service rep who actually worked at the former Hummer dealtership in town. He immediately knew what it was and was surprised the other reps I talked with earlier didn't know. I don't know that I can explain it fully, but the starter malfunctioned. It has something to do with the anti-theft system not recognizing the key. Sometimes if you put the key in the ignition or try to start it again too quickly after turning off the car, it doesn't recognize the key and won't allow the car to start. He said it would continue to happen if I didn't replace the starter.
I tried disconnecting the battery and surprise...surprise..it worked, thanks for the tip.
how do you replace drivers side door handle on 2006 hummer h3
My hummer h3 will sit overnight and wont start. or my lock and unlock button wont work. i can jump it and it will be fine. and then the next day it wont start. or just randomly wont start. i dont no what is going on. my engine light always comes on but i don tno if this has anything to do with it. i just bought this new battery last year.
battery seems ok
