How do I change the brake master cylinder on a 2000 dodge dakota rt 360 magnum 5.9l v8 mopar

disconnect the front and rear brake lines, undo bolts holding the master cylinder to the brake booster. Bench bleed the new master and reconnect to booster and reconnect lines. Be very careful when undoing the lines from the master cyclinder as you do not want to damage them. Soak with WD-40 before loosening. Once everything is back in place you will need to bleed all calipers and/or wheel cylinders. Again soak the bleeder screws beforehand with WD-40 as they break off easily.

Have a 1991 dodge dakota, have replaced everything , still cant get brakes to work.

How about the rubber flex hoses restricted

In the rear you have an abs hcu you can throw way
& bypass, then unplug the controller up under the dash
on the passenger side

Also the rear brake cables won't work for rust, they have to go also

I had a 1992 Dakota for 18 years

Leave the wire off the proportioning valve as the vehicle is wired wrong & if your bleeding it ,it will melt down the wires in the ignition switch (been there) Vehicle is not the same as the factory wiring diagrams

Brakes feel real soft will not stop quick if needed

You are low on brake fluid. Check your master cylinder for the fluid level and check for leaks in the line.

My brakes do not stop and go all the way to the floor

You 're brake master cylender has failed.
How to change it.

Use a flare wrench and remove the two brake lines.
Then remove the the two nuts that hold it to the fire wall.
Then remove.
Then remove the master cylinder reservoir because your
going to have to put it on the new one.
Drain out any brake fluid from it.
In stall the reservoir on the new master cylinder.
Now you'll have to prime the new master cylinder.
Put the master cylinder in a vise and put brake fluid into it.
Now place your fingers over the two holes that the brake line go into.
Use a large phillips screw driver and push the piston in and out about 10 times.
But, do it slowly. make shore to keep your fingers over the brake line holes. .
Now install it back in.
Remember to bleed your brake system when your done.
Hope this helps give feedback and good luck FixYa

I have a 2001 Dodge Dakota that will not lock up the brakes. Everything has been replaced and it coasts to a stop. The pedel goes to the floor at full stop . Master cyl, prop valve, new lines, and...

Master cylinter is shot is my first thought. if it has been replaced with a referb.. replace it again. make sure you bench bleed the master cylinder before putting it on.. if it's new, you have a ton of air in the lines.. bleed the pass rear first/ drivers rear/ pass front/ pass rear.. FYI your brakes/ tires should never lock up, you have ABS.

Brake problems! getting fluid to all lines no air in lines but pedal is almost touching the floor

Air can be a pain to get out sometimes. Check for striped fitting/bleed screws, if it all check out, it is most likely the master cylinder on the firewall.

Brake fluid leaking from the bottom of the driver side on a dodge dakota 97

master cylinder maybe or the brake lines going to the back of the truck, but most likely the master cylinder, check to see if you see any brake fluid on the front of the brake booster or any paint peeling off the brake booster
