5 speed manual tranmission 2001 kia rio what kind of fluid does it take

If it doesnt shift at proper speeds when its driving, then yes, the transmission. Make sure the fluid is full when engine at operating temp., idle. in park. If it's full, and no obvious shifter linkage problems, then you need to have it looked at by a transmission shop.

It is good for 100,000 miles, then the dealer needs to look at after that.

Had a problem with my daughters Kia Rio, it would tend to loose power and would not accelerate easily, tried everything and it turned out to be the feed cables for the fuel injection which run at the rear of the engine along the baulkhead, which were streched ..Had to rewire .

I just did the same thing, I had to remove the air box to get to the reverse switch on the transaxle. I removed the switch and filled the fuild there.

On your trany u got a plug just like a transfercase on pick ups.. thats how u check the oil level..
