98 and 99 intrepid was manufactured with weak fuel pumps causing them to vapor lock try pouring cool water on the fuel rails on the intake to calm vapored gas then try to start it. Even the temp gauge at half way mark is probably still low on coolant causing engine to be warmer than normal causing the vapor lock to fix this problem replace the fuel pump with a 2000 or newer intrepid fuel pump that carries a little higher psi to prevent vapor lock from reoccurring this pump is compatible with your 98 it will plug right in

Sorry this is not an easy fix the clutch packs in the transmission are slipping, usually caused by wear, but the hydraulic pump is probably getting week. As the oil warms up the oil gets thinner and the hydraulic pressure decreases. Times for a overhaul of the transmission, and if the torque converter can not be flushed a new torque converter is recommended. You may get lucky buy changing the fluid several times, but if the transmission is 22 years old it may not help.

the actual proble is in the BCM which means body control module, i will first check and make sure that all the grounding cables to this vehicle is tight and clean and if they areok and the problem continues it is time to get a new or rebuilt BCM.
SOURCE: 98 caravan died while driving, won't start
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but my 98 Grand Caravan did almost the same thing. When the alarm light stopped flashing, and stayed on solid...It was a hint it wasn't going to start. Its NOT the alarm system, but rather your "computer" or Circuit board located behind your dash. After a VERY GOOD mechanic (who was NOT a Chrysler mechanic) located my circuit board shorting out...I had to take it to my local dealer to order a new one. Total costs...$130 diag. (by my machanic) and $500+ for the circuit board and $230 labor. It sounds like a lot...I know, and if you can do it yourself...good luck. I knew I couldn't...taking the dash panel apart was a lot of work!
Good luck to you...but my advice is get rid of it. Soon after the circuit board the following things began failing and the costs were... air conditioner pump went out (estimated to fix $1600) and the Transmission pump began leaking badly (1qt a day) $2000 and the air bag sensor lit up, bag never deployed...dealer said $1200 to fix that.

SOURCE: 99 dodge ram, engine shuts off while driving let
try to start but it will not change cap and router
This problem
is commonly caused by a dirty automatic idle speed control valve and
throttle valve. Buy a can of throttle valve cleaner from NAPA or
Carquest (made by CRC chemicals) and spray it into the air intake
while the engine is running, use up about 1/2 the can, engine will
try to stall hold the speed up, shut it down and let it soak for 30
minutes, restart and blow out the remaining fluid, shut it down and
disconnect the negative battery cable for 5 Min's to reset the base
idle control
