I have a 2000 Isuzu Rodeo and had the same problem. On the 2000, there are 2 screws on the side of the light assembly and 1 at the bottom the need to be removed. I found I needed a longer philips screwdriver for the bottom screw as there is not much room. Once you remove the screws, pull straight back on the unit. There are 2 plastic pins that are about 3/4" that will pop out of their socket when you pull straight back. Then, just lift the unit out and replace the bulb.

possibally a short and the most common area to cop a hard life is if it has a trailer plug check the condition of the wires and that they are secured properly . if ever thing is ok there check the rear tail light bulbs for defects as well. but your lookin for a short in the system so if you have altered any thing in the electrical system a quick check over that as well. rear earthing to tail lights should be checked as well
