The differential cover is welded on, and Dorman products makes a better than original product.

No, not expensive.....no, not a lot of work.

Just make sure you have enough differential fluid to replentish what you drain out. All you need is a seal replacement if it is leaking from the casing....it is in the rear of your car, underneath....in between the tires....looks like a round, metal case. Look to see if it is leaking from around the edges.

SOURCE: I am looking to buy

Could be quite costly. Especially the rear main seal on the engine. You have to take the trans out to even get to it. I would look for something else with less problems to buy.

2001 yukon rear diffential

Well, at this point, you're probably overdue for a fluid change anyway. Drain the rear differential, take the cover off, clean the surfaces, make a new gasket out of red RTV silicon (Here's how: run a bead all the way around the inner surface. Put on the differential cover, all the bolts, and then pull the cover back about a quarter of an inch. Let it dry. It is now a self-made gasket that will actually crush and hold tighter than if it is simply squashed in while wet.), refill the differential, and you should be good to go. A little oversimplified, but still, main steps!

How do remove the rear differential cover on a 2003 Ford Explorer? The gasket is leaking and I want to replace it. The cover is bolted to the frame member and that's alittle

The cover gasket is silicone and is not designed to be serviced without removing the differential assembly. You will need to remove axles , driveshaft , and maybe the spare tire to get differential out.

2004 Explorer: Rear differential cover is leaking, how do I fix i...

put flat pan under the housing remove the bolts holding the cover usually 10 or 12 (1/2 or #12 metric) bolts? allow the rear end grease to drain... then scape off the old gasket clean with brake cleaner spray install either new gasket or form one with oil resistant silicone put the cover back on , dont refill the fliud for at least 12 hours if using silicone. Also check the front driveshaft rear end yoke seal....they sometimes leak making the illusion of a rear end pan cover leak...if that is leaking you remove the shaft carefully...remove the large yoke retaining nut, replace the press in seal...be sure retaining yoke nut is properly torqued when reinstalling .

Does anyone know how to change seals on rear diff on 2003 frod expedition

if you need to change the axle seals here is the process. You need to remove the rear wheels. Remove the brake drums if so equipped. Remove the rear cover on the differential. Turn the differential until you find the bolt that holds the cross shaft in place. Remove the bolt and pull the cross shaft out. Then you will see the axle ends. Push the axle in towards the center of the axle. You will need to remove a C clip retainer from the axle end. You can then remove the axle and gain access to the seal. Repeat the process on the opposite side. Then reverse the disassembly process. Place the cover back onto the differential housing and refill the differential. Good luck.
