Low Oil Pressure on 1992 Chevy 1500 Pickup Truck

When the engine is first started the Oil pressure guage 'Red lines' on the high end. As the engine warms up and the oil begins to thin the pressure goes down to about 30. After about 45 minutes of driving as I'm sitting and idling, it reads 0, and the Check Guages light comes on. It will basically stay there or just barely come out of the 0 mark. It only reads high (Normal) at the start.

Just for giggles I located the Oil Pressure sensor (Switch) just to see where it was, and I found it to be very wet with Oil. Maybe this is a clue. Could it be leaking from there or loose?

intermittent check engine light. codes say misfire and fuel guage. noticing once in a while the fuel guage goes all the way down and the low fuel light comes on. after a few minutes it goes back to normal. today i noticed the oil pressure is higher than normal and voltage guage reading higher than normal. also the tow haul working intermittently. could this be a ground issue? or a cluster issue?

Ive got a 98 Silverado 350 with 109k miles. My truck is doing the same thing. p304 code and low oil light coming on when at idle. I replaced fuel pump, plugs, wires, cap and rotor all in the last six months. Still have the hesitation and poor fuel economy. I'm not sure where else to look.......

Hi! The problem you are outlining is very similar to the Rover V8 (Buick engine). We Brit's are used to the low oil pressure when warm. I presume a complete oil change engine flushed with new replacement filter has been carried out? Maybe a top quality synthetic oil with additive may help. You may take it a little further and replace the oil pump with an after market performance up rated one. If you really are worried about low oil pressure damage whilst in low rev's try Molybnenum Disulphide an oil additive which really reduces friction metal to metal wear particulary in the situation you are describing.
That's the best I can suggest at this moment.
Good Luck! and Happy New Year!

    AHA!

Again a problem I've suffered, Small Block in a G20 Chevrolet WinneBago Sundancer Motorhome. I converted it to run on Lpg and on our 1st outing I nearly had a heart attack, when I started it to leave the campsite Nil oil pressure I immeadiatly shut off the engine. I took the engine cover off and loosened the Oil pressure sensor (Bell Shaped) started it again and oil spewed out so I knew the oil pump was working.

When I returned home I purchased a Manual oil pressure Gauge (Capilliary tubed) fitted it without a problem and Bingo correct oil pressure at all temperatures.(WinneBago is no longer in our possesion)

Loks like you may have solved this one yourself, WELL DONE!

2001 Chevy Silverado c1500 pickup has very low oil pressure, what do I need to look at?

Do not drive the truck until the issue is resolved.

1. Make sure the oil is at the proper level in the engine with the correct spec oil for the pickup. Oh it is normal for the oil pressure to be a little low at idle and go up to the normal range as the engine rpm goes up to normal operating range.

2. It could be either a real problem or a problem with the oil pressure indicator. To verify which connect a mechanical test pressure gauge of the proper range say a 0-100 psig scale to the point where the oil pressure sensor is connected. After it is connected test run the engine for a short period. If the pressure shows normal replace the oil pressure sensor. If the gauge confirms the low oil pressure then you have a serious issue in the engine. It could be:

1. Bad oil pump or oil pressure relief valve

2. excessive clearance in the bearings due to high miles.

Oil gauge looses pressure at times. For 1989 Chevy 1500 pickup. What does this mean?

It could be the sending unit, or the engine could really be loosing oil pressure. Low oil pressure can be a number of things including a weak pump, blockage at the pickup screen, or worn bearings.

On my 2004 gmc sierra z-71 it has the low and high side airconditioing port it looks like about 8 in apart on the same line u can put a recharge can and guage on the 1 closest to the firewall it reads...

There is a orifice in the line.On one side you will have high pressure. After the orifice you will have low pressure.Like having a garden hose with a small nozzel and putting the same size hose over the nozzel with the other end open. Not sure what the pressure is called for on that truck.May be higher pressure required.May want to try and find out what the required pressure is for your truck.

Changed oil pressure switch, still no oil pressure

The fuel pump on that model runs through the oil pressure switch so that if the truck looses oil pressure,It kills power to the fuel pump to prevent engine damage.you need to find the cause of the low oil pressure reading(possibly a bad oil switch). That would be the cheapest place to start,or have it checked with a mechanical gauge.Good luck,

Oil pressure problems for a 2005 chevy 1500 silverado

The first thing you should do is change the oil filter. No matter how old it is. If that doesn't work repost.

Changed oil pan gasket now i dont have much oil pressure

If oil pressure was fine before you changed the gasket, it's likely that some debris was loosened up (probably under the pan baffle) and got onto the oil pump pickup, restricting flow. The only other cause of low pressure would be worn engine bearings, which would not happen just by changing oil pan, unless you messed with either bearings or pump while pan was down. Remove the pan and carefully inspect the pump pickup for debris!!! DO NOT DRIVE VEHICLE 'TILL YOU HAVE CORRECTED THIS OR YOU WILL DAMAGE BEARINGS!!!

Flashig oil light

You either have a loose/worn engine bearing or a worn out oil pump, do not drive the car this way, you will cause serious damage to the whole engine. A oil switch is for a light, it turns on the light when oil pressure falls below about 10 PSI, a sending unit is for a guage that shows oil pressure with a scale, it may have numbers on the guage or just green and red, or high and low.
