SOURCE: 1993 Subaru Loyale Wheel Bearing Gone

Take it to a machine shop with a hydralic press, or find a big socket that fits on the OUTER bearing race and tap tap tap it out.   Don't tap on the inner race as you will just blow the bearing apart with the outer race still stuck.  If you go to the machine shop, have them press the new bearing in, otherwise you will need to be careful with the caveman approach to installing it not to get it cocked sideways or hammer on it much.

SOURCE: 2002 subaru forester first CV joint now hub and bearing?

They should've checked everything when they had it apart for the CV...Go somewhere else (NOT THE DEALER) and have the work done. Estimate ($135-175)

You should have the drive axles checked. Also Wheel bearings. Are there any vibrations or pulling?

SOURCE: Procedure for replacing rear wheel bearings 2000 Forester

i'm assuming you don't have a hubshark, this is a tool that will alllow you to remove the bearing while the knuckle is attached to the car,you may be able to rent this tool at a auto prts store .if not you need to remove the entie knuckle, first remove the trailing arm bolt, then the lateral link bolt{long and stubborn bolt},disassemble the brake shoes and parking brake cable, abs sensor if equipped the knuckle to strut bolt{no marking necessary they are not eccentric} then you need a to use or borrow a press to remove hub and bearings good luck

SOURCE: left front wheel bearing is bad, need to change.

Basically you need to remove the hub and take it to a garage, it takes up to 10 ton to press a bearing out, and change both sides, otherwise you will get the right side problem very soon.

Some experiences I have had.
If you are lucky I have had rocks get in the tire tread and it would make noise while going down the road.
You may be able to jack up and spin wheel and see is you have the rough noise of a wheel bearing.

What could be the cause of loud clunk in rear of subaru forester 2002?

You can have worn bearings on the pinion gear and/or worn universal joints.

How to remove hub on subaru 2002

Front or rear, if on the car, you need a slide hammer device. This bolts onto the wheel studs, with a thick rod that's aligned to the axle. The heavy slide weight runs along the rod to a stop and eventually pulls the hub off. Its usually easier to pull the entire knuckle off.

To remove the rear wheel bearings (which is what I suspect you want to do) you need a special tool to extract the bearings. On the front, a hydraulic press is required.

I cannot get the front tire off of my 2001 subaru forester

Not overly familiar with this car but usually not. They put a small amount of grease between the wheel and hub to avoid rust and it creates a vacuum almost like glue. Take a bar or your biggest screwdriver and pry on your wheel spoke for leverage as not to damage your disc or caliper It seems strange but it will pop off. My explored and Yukon do the same thing.

My 1999 Forester Subaru wheel bearings are bad both rear wheels not to mention the front I just had repaired at Firestone for 600.00 Is it worth the extra money to take the car to Subaru, a 300....

Are you sure that they bearings are really bad, bad tires can also give you a growl noise from the bearings if they are different or worn badly. It should not mater where you take it to have them done, just that they use good quality parts and replace them properly. Hope this helps and have a good day.

2002 Subaru Forester. I have a humming/grinding

I would suspect wheel bearing first
Test just like the front
Wheel off the ground
grab the top and bottom of the tire and rock

However...If I remeber correctly the rear uses axle bearings which are pressed on and difficult to diangose

Therefore... I'd advise you seek a Subau dealer since so few tech see a Forester even once a month
