You have to remove the intake plenum to access the spark plugs. That's the piece that sticks up and completely covers the back side when looking from the front. If you have fairly average car repair skills, it isn't all that hard but does take a lot longer than a normal spark plug change-out. If you remove the plenum and do this job yourself, you MUST replace the intake plenum gasket or you will end up with a bad vacuum leak. I strongly recommend you refer to a maintenance manual if you attempt this procedure. There is a lot of stuff attached to the plenum that has to be removed.
manual for free are as rare as hens teeth, and engines are not as complicated as you think , the basics are the same, fuel, spark, compression, the basic diagnosis can be done at home, you need a spark tester, the inline work best, injector tester(noid light) fuel pressure tester, and a voltage ohm meter, buy a haynes manual, good idea since you may want to repair something else later, i see too many people just replacing parts till the problem goes away, effective but expensive, so take some time to study and do some of your own diagnostics first
Ok, not SURE about this model, but try going to the Online Toyota Owner's website (link below) and create an account with your car information. If your car is listed on the choices it SHOULD give you access to a bunch of free PDF's of manuals, repair guides, etc. I have my Toyota registered there, and I get a PDF of the entire Owner's Manual and a few car-specific DIY repair manuals, like changing the spark plugs in my model/year, etc. Good luck, and hope this helps you! Here's the link:
