If I'm undersatanding you correctly this could be a shift solenoid. I would take it to an ASE certified transmission shop. This repair is beyond a DIYer.

SOURCE: tranmission shift problem

Check the gearbox filter, it may require replacing.
Its inside the gearbox below , remove the (gearbox)sump and you will notice it.

SOURCE: Sonoma not shifting into third

All 4x4 s-10, Blazer, Jimmy, and Sonoma's from 1992ish to 2004 used the 4L60. Id stick with one from '96 to '04 for OBD2 compatibility though. Beware of high mileage ones as they will be close to failure. (the sun shell cracks) They all blow up eventually. Oh and make sure you clean/flush/or replace the cooler. 90% of tranny problems are from overheating

SOURCE: Hard to shift my gears when car in cold.Won't even go out of neutral to 1st gear.Forget about going into reverse.

With the engine off, check your operation of the gear shift. If you can go in and out of the gears fine without the engine running, then you have a worn clutch disc that needs replaced. If the problem still exists then you either have low fluid/weak hydraulic system, or there is a problem with the syncro that may be adjusted.

You mean shift solenoids. Well if they were replaced was any other work done prior to the problem. Was the pan clean? What kind of mileage? How was the condition of the oil? Any service engine or check engine light on? Codes? Let me know?

Automatic tranmission not working on overdrive, tacoma 2006

The knock sensor fault may be preventing the transmission from shifting to OD. The main engine computer also sends commands to the transmission computer. Your transmission valve body is controlled by electronics.

I have a 1999 Chrysler 300M. Simultaneously, the Check Engine light came on, the speedometer stopped working, and the car doesn't shift out of 2nd gear. What's the likely problem?

these vehicles have alot of problems with the tcm( tranmission control module) internal failures of trans speed sensors. your car is currently in "limp in mode" to protect your trasmission!!!

Tranmission won't into shift into D stays in 2nd. gear speed odmetor don;t work

Hi...sounds like you need to have your 3-2 shift solenoid in the transmission replaced. Go to a local Auto Zone auto parts store near you and ask them to check you computer codes to see if this solenoid shows up. They do not charge for this service.
