If I'm undersatanding you correctly this could be a shift solenoid. I would take it to an ASE certified transmission shop. This repair is beyond a DIYer.

Check the gearbox filter, it may require replacing.
Its inside the gearbox below , remove the (gearbox)sump and you will notice it.

All 4x4 s-10, Blazer, Jimmy, and Sonoma's from 1992ish to 2004 used the 4L60. Id stick with one from '96 to '04 for OBD2 compatibility though. Beware of high mileage ones as they will be close to failure. (the sun shell cracks) They all blow up eventually. Oh and make sure you clean/flush/or replace the cooler. 90% of tranny problems are from overheating
With the engine off, check your operation of the gear shift. If you can go in and out of the gears fine without the engine running, then you have a worn clutch disc that needs replaced. If the problem still exists then you either have low fluid/weak hydraulic system, or there is a problem with the syncro that may be adjusted.

You mean shift solenoids. Well if they were replaced was any other work done prior to the problem. Was the pan clean? What kind of mileage? How was the condition of the oil? Any service engine or check engine light on? Codes? Let me know?
