2003 Chrysler T & C Van 3.3 liter engine My van will not start on its own. I have to use starting fluid to start it. Once started the van runs fine. I can accelerate up to 80mph + with no problems. I also can turn the car off and then back on immediately and it will start. Turning the car off and then back on after a few minutes though, the van will not start. The engine is not struggling to start as it sounds strong, it just is not turning completely over. Originally I thought it may have been the fuel pump. However I can feel the relay flip and have swapped it around with a working relay. Also I can hear the fuel pump turn on when I first turn my key (black key). I bought a fuel pump and had a mobile guy to put it on, but after speaking with him, neither of us do not think its the fuel pump. I am getting a p601 error code on scan, which I know is the PCM (google searches). The mobile guy checked the sensors (voltages, etc) around the throttle body and they seem to be fine. He thinks that it may be something with the PCM to where it is preventing the fuel injectors from turning on. At this point I am desperate for ideas and insight because, as snakebit as I am with cars, it cannot be a good thing with having to use Starting Fluid. Thank you to all in advance....
Your description matched a faulty check valve in the pump letting fuel pressure drop back into the tank when the engine is off. But replacing the fuel pump should have fixed that.
I guess its possible the fuel pressure regulator could be faulty and allowing pressure to drop with the engine off.
If the injectors are not getting a pulse in crank mode I would doubt they would if the engine started. But anything is possible with electricity..
Obviously you will have to figure out what is missing in crank mode that you have when the engine is running. You know it is fuel but not how.
I would either check the injectors with a node light or test light to see if they are getting power and a ground pulse from the computer, or check the fuel pressure before and after you start cranking the engine.

Try checking those sparks again. It could be a weak spark not enough to start your engine.
Make sure also that you have fresh gasoline, as gasoline or diesel looses it's effectiveness after a long time.

yea if it runs on start fluid then your not getting enough fuel .. you are likley going to have to change out that fuel pump .. you might hear it come on but it might not be pumping fluid forward .. good luck

Most likely there is a hole in the air tube. Open the hood and check the rubber tube on top of the engine. If there is a rip, just cover it with some heavy duty tape and it will help on a tempory basis.

Ok...you mentioned that there is no spark coming from the coil when it's in no start...Is there power from the alternator going to the coil?
One other item...If the timing chain is worn and stretched, it is possible that the cam sensor and crank sensor are out of phase with each other, just enough where a temperature difference will change starting ability.
One question...while in no start, have you tried changing the throttle position while cranking to see if it lights at part or 3/4 throttle?
